Videocon’s Ducati-branded V6200 handset probably isn’t as awesome as the real thing
Can't afford to put the primal growl of a Ducati 1198R Corse superbike in your garage? Well, consider this the consolation prize: the Italian motorcycle firm has teamed up with Videocon in India to release the V6200 candybar, a rather rugged-looking little beast that features an integrated compass, thermometer, barometer, altimeter, pedometer (thanks to an accelerometer, naturally), GPS, and a UV meter -- in other words, every kind of sensor you could possibly want, and then some

FCC addressing net neutrality on December 21st (updated)
Well, well, look at what's been added to a tentative agenda when the FCC meets on December 21st: net neutrality . Here's how the item reads: Open Internet Order: An Order adopting basic rules of the road to preserve the open Internet as a platform for innovation, investment, competition, and free expression. These rules would protect consumers' and innovators' right to know basic information about broadband service, right to send and receive lawful Internet traffic, and right to a level playing field, while providing broadband Internet access providers with the flexibility to reasonably manage their networks

Motorola Defy ‘expected’ to get Android 2.2 in Q2 2011, says O2 Germany
Though we loved the Defy , we were quick to admonish Motorola for having the stones to release a phone this late in the game running Eclair ; after all, Froyo's been on retail devices since June, so rocking 2.1 on a new release is just a little insulting.

US Cellular: LTE trial in late 2011, full deployment in 2012
Though fellow regional carrier MetroPCS has been arguably the most aggressive carrier in all of North America in getting LTE live , it looks like US Cellular is taking a slightly more laid-back approach. At a conference in New York today, USCC's CFO announced that they're looking at deploying one LTE test market in the latter part of 2011, moving on to a full-force launch in 2012.

Motorola Backflip getting limited Android 2.1 rollout today, all markets on November 9th
It's been a long road, but users of AT&T's rather bizarre Motorola Backflip will finally be seeing upgrades to Android 2.1 -- upgrades that were originally promised in the first half of the year, then delayed to the third quarter , then delayed once again. Enough with the bellyaching, though, eh? A thousand customers who volunteered to get the update early via Motorola's support forums should've started getting access to it today, while "all markets" will receive it on November 9th -- and interestingly, it'll only be available as an offline update (in other words, no over-the-air option here).

Apple awarded limited patent on pinch-to-zoom
Boom: Apple was just awarded a patent on pinch-to-zoom for multitouch displays. That's the first directly applicable patent we've seen on the gesture since we first started looking during the Apple / Palm war of words in January 2009, and it certainly gives Apple some potent ammunition against its competitors -- although there are some specific limitations on what Apple's been granted that will prove to be important

LG Neon II hits up AT&T, lords 3G over its predecessor
It took a little longer than we'd anticipated , but LG's Neon II has finally filtered down from the snowcapped northern realms to the North -- though strangely, the version AT&T's getting looks quite different (and worse, if you ask us) from Rogers' model . Besides the slide-out QWERTY keyboard, you get a 2 megapixel cam, 2.4-inch QVGA display, and little else -- in other words, it's basically a refreshed Neon that's mercifully been graced with 3G for the first time. Interested parties can sign up right now for $29.99 on contract after discount

Apple loses, challenges patent verdict surrounding Cover Flow and Time Machine
Remember that one random company who sued Apple back in March of 2008 for ripping off its display interface patents? Turns out it was filed in the Eastern District of Texas, a hotbed for patent trolls who know that they stand a better-than-average chance of winning simply because of where their issues are being taken up.

One look at the N8 and E7 should be enough to convince the casual observer that Nokia is serious about design.
