Verizon Wireless launched 16 new cell sites in NYC, we can not imagine why

What can only be called an amazing example of a very coincidental timing, Verizon has announced that it throws 16 new 3G cell is more New York Metro area. Unfortunately, they do not spread the love by LTE Empire State, but this signal is added to the force of the Management Area, we want to say that the company is in reasonably good shape to deal with big clients. You know, just in case. Not a complete list of all the PR new tower below. Continue reading

LG Optimus 2X coming to T-Mobile USA by March?

When the Optimus 2X was announced a few days ago, North America was conspicuously left out of the nebulous launch plans mentioned in the press release -- but that doesn't necessarily mean it's not coming. RCR Wireless says it has it on "rather good authority" that LG's beastly Tegra 2 -powered Android phone will in fact see a US launch, and that said launch will be on T-Mobile in late February (which would be right after MWC ) or early March.

FCC: We didn’t impose stricter net neutrality regulations on wireless because Android is open

Rest assured that we're working on a full analysis of the FCC's major net neutrality decision today, but the Commission hasn't actually released the full text of the order yet, and we just came across something in the press release we wanted to break out: one of the specific reasons the FCC gives for regulating wireless broadband more lightly than wireline is the release of Android. Seriously -- the release says that only "measured steps" to regulating wireless are necessary because "open operating systems like Android" have been released, and that it wants to see how Verizon and other 700MHz spectrum winners handle the hotly-contested openness requirement when building out 4G

AT&T buys Qualcomm’s FLO TV spectrum for a cool $1.9b, promises 4G awesomeness

Qualcomm and AT&T are no longer talking about a deal , they've agreed to one: pending regulatory checks and other closing conditions, the wireless spectrum that was once dedicated to FLO TV will now be transferred into AT&T's ownership in a $1.925 billion deal. Located in the lower 700MHz range, this bit of wireless space is said to cover more than 300 million people nationwide and AT&T expects it to play an important role in its future 4G network rollout and development

Novatel’s MiFi 4082 is the WiMAX-capable hotspot the Overdrive has been dreading

Sprint's Overdrive from Sierra Wireless has been handling the WiMAX mobile hotspot duties on Sprint for most of this year, but it's been walking that road alone. Novatel, which took the mobile hotspot concept mainstream with its venerable MiFi line -- has been absent from the 4G race so far...

Page Plus Cellular adds annual prepaid plan: $80 a year for 2,000 minutes

Voice-only wireless customers who couldn't possibly care less about messaging or data probably aren't reading this site to hear the news, but if they were, they'd find out that prepaid carrier Page Plus Cellular has just added a pretty wild new plan that lets you pay $80 in exchange for 2,000 voice minutes that expire annually.

LG LU3000 taking its 1080p talents to South Korea in a week’s time

Ah, LG's LU3000, the sprightly young thing that made the iPhone 4 and Galaxy S look a wee bit aged in some YouTube tests has now become official over in South Korea. It boasts a 1GHz TI OMAP3630 chip, allowing it to jot down 1080p video playback on its spec sheet, which in turn goes very nicely with the built-in HDMI port and DLNA wireless capabilities. A 3.8-inch screen offers an 800 x 480 resolution, there's a 5 megapixel camera around the back, and a mildly skinned Android 2.2 performs the OS duties

Verizon trials Home Phone Connect, turns your landline into a cellphone

We're aware of a few third-party products that pull off this trick by connecting to your cellphone via Bluetooth, but Verizon's throwing weight behind its own system called Home Phone Connect that'll connect your home phone into its wireless network. The system -- which seems to be available only to residents of New York and Connecticut at the moment -- includes some sort of base station that connects to Verizon's network on one end and your existing landline on the other; T-Mobile's now-defunct @Home service was similar, but used your internet connection to route the calls rather than the cellular airwaves. Subscribers pay $9.99 to add the landline to a Verizon family plan or $19.99 to grant it unlimited domestic minutes, which seems poised to cut into Verizon's legacy landline business just as much (if not more) than the unique Hub unit that got killed off a while back

Sony Ericsson LiveView review

This isn't the first time that Sony Ericsson's dabbled in the field of spy-like Bluetooth wrist accessories, but as we all know, extortionate prices and limited functionality meant these old timers never really took off. But now, things may be different: SE's freshly baked LiveView promises to offer a generous set of features -- alongside your Android 2.x device -- while going a little easier on your wallet.
