Kin skin for Windows Mobile 6.5 leads to more questions than answers

How would we like to replace the UI on our Windows Mobile 6.5 phone with the Kin UI? Well, we never really thought about it, we suppose...

HTC HD Mini review

We had to exercise our neglected patience muscle with this one, but at long last we've gotten ahold of a real live HD Mini and put it through its paces. Equipped with the same processor, screen size and resolution as HTC's Legend , but running the HD2 's Windows Mobile 6.5.3 under a WinMo-specific Sense skin, the Mini is in many ways an amalgamation of its two better known cousins. You'll no doubt be aware that we weren't too displeased by either of those handsets, so what you must be wondering now is whether or not splicing them into one eminently pocketable package delivers an equally compelling device

Samsung Exec launched for US Cellular, suggests WinMo ain’t dead yet

You probably won't hear Microsoft lauding this thing too much -- it's got bigger fish to fry at the moment -- but Samsung and US Cellular have just teamed up to launch the i225 Exec, a simple Windows Mobile 6.5 Standard-based smartphone with a portrait QWERTY keyboard. It's got a 2 megapixel camera and microSD expansion up to 32GB (assuming you can actually track down a 32GB SanDisk card ), but otherwise, this is about as straightforward and basic as a modern smartphone can get -- no frills, just straight-up touchscreen-free legacy WinMo action. It's available right now for $99.95 on a new two-year contract after $70 rebate

Sprint outs details on WinMo 6.5 update for Touch Pro2

Windows Mobile 6.5 fever: catch it! AT&T had the good fortune of releasing the Tilt2 late enough to get 6.5 out of the gate, but the other guys have been falling in line ever since: first Verizon , then T-Mobile , and now Sprint's getting in on the action. The bad news is that they're only committing to a vague "by the end of first quarter, 2010" window at this point, but the great news is that this appears to be more than a simple 6.5 bump -- Sprint says that there'll also be "significant enhancements to the Touch Pro2 user interface which will allow additional customization / personalization options and more integration with the applications users access most." We'll take it -- and actually, why don't you just go ahead and make it this mysterious 6.6 while you're at it, guys? Sprint outs details on WinMo 6.5 update for Touch Pro2 originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Thu, 14 Jan 2010 17:48:00 EST.

T-Mobile’s Touch Pro2 and Dash 3G signed up for WinMo 6.5 updates this month

So far, it seems like manufacturers (well, HTC and a couple others, anyhow) are staying on the ball about upgrading recent handsets to WinMo 6.5 , and the next deserving pair comes from none other than T-Mobile USA -- the Dash 3G and Touch Pro2 . Of course, the unbranded versions of both of these handsets (the Dash 3G goes by Snap internationally, you may recall) were quite literally the first pre-6.5 devices anywhere to get updated way back in October , so you could make the argument that the American cousins are already way, way behind the curve. Anyhow, the carrier is saying that official updates for both models will be ready for download on the 20th of this month, so get ready to say your final goodbyes to 6.1 and start wishing that you'd received a 6.5.3 update instead

Verizon getting Palm Pre Plus and Android-powered Motorola Devour?

We're still not totally clear on how exactly Verizon intends to enter (or rather, re-enter) the Palm stage in 2010; we know there's definitely a WiFi-equipped CDMA Pixi out there that'll likely find its way into Big Red's clutches, but otherwise, we really need to wait for this event at CES next month. Well, maybe -- we've got another little clue here in the form of some tips to PhoneArena stating that a "Pre Plus" has found its way into the carrier's systems, which fits in nicely with info we'd previously received from one of our trusted sources that Verizon's Pre would be somehow "different" from Sprint's though we don't yet know how. As far as we can tell, this isn't the same as that WiFi Pixi (wouldn't it be confusing if it was?), so we should probably expect at least two webOS models on Verizon over the next few months.

HP’s Obsidian becomes iPAQ Glisten, officially comes to AT&T

Wow, talk about digging deep in the memory bank. The same phone that we spotted way back in July (known then as the iPAQ K3 Obsidian ) has finally emerged in official fashion on AT&T. Dubbed the iPAQ Glisten, this all-business smartphone boasts a vanilla coat of Windows Mobile 6.5, a 2.5-inch AMOLED display, 3.1 megapixel camera, 256MB of SDRAM, a microSD expansion slot, A-GPS, 3.5 millimeter headphone jack, a QWERTY keyboard, 802.11b/g WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR
