Sprint phasing out Nextel’s iDEN network, selects vendors for $5b network upgrade project
Looks like the Motorola i1 Android set ( not pictured above) will stand as the highest-end Nextel phone ever -- Sprint just announced that it's phasing out the iDEN network sometime in 2013 as it begins a new four to five billion dollar network enhancement project called "Network Vision." We've expected this for a while -- the Sprint / Nextel merger has been beset by subscriber losses and rumors of a breakup for years now -- but this is the first time we've gotten a date. Sprint's rolling out push-to-talk on its own network to support its 10.6 million Nextel customers, but we don't have a schedule for that yet. Sprint's also announcing vendors for Network Vision: Alcatel-Lucent, Samsung, and Ericsson will each handle a region and be tasked with expanding and fortifying Sprint's existing 1900MHz 3G network while buying 800MHz, 1900MHz, and 2.5GHz spectrum for future use.

T-Mobile G2 again, this time with less Mr. Blurrycam
So we just got a second batch of T-Mobile G2 shots dropped in our mailbox -- and this time, you can get a much better look at the inner workings of the carrier's version of the upcoming HTC Vision . Looks like this bad boy slides and tilts, which eliminates the need for a kickstand and is very likely causing you to breathe an audible sigh of relief right about now

Purported myTouch HD leaks out alongside promise of T-Mobile’s first HSPA+ smartphone
Someone should really tell T-Mobile USA it's got a rather large hole that needs plugged. Hot on the heels of the (presumably) T-Mob-bound G1 Blaze leak comes this duo, which includes a purported leak of the myTouch HD (or 3G HD) as well as a web portal that quite clearly prepares us for the launch of the carrier's first HSPA+ smartphone

iPhone 4 plus Brailliant-32 display enables even blind men to experience the magic (video)
The evolution of phones away from physical buttons toward touchscreens is great if you're into clean, aesthetic design. But, if you're suffering from limited vision, there are some obvious issues

Droid X commercial reveals a few specs — if you look very, very closely
Verizon's got a teaser ad running for the upcoming Droid X now, but if you see it on TV and you don't have a DVR that can slow down the action, you're going to miss all the good stuff -- in fact, all you really see at full speed is a scary eye that slowly transforms into the lifeless, blood-red vision sensor of a killer robot.

iPhone 4′s retina display claim put under the math microscope
Samsung might have entertained us with some trash talk about the iPhone 4's IPS LCD yesterday, but this stuff is of a rather more somber variety.

HTC Glacier, LED, and Vision among next round of vague codenames?
Start that wild imagination of yours running, because you're going to need it to make sense of this little tidbit. A tipster who claims (and gives us visual evidence as proof) that he was able to root out HTC product names like Incredible and Legend months before release on some sort of internal component bidding site has sent us a new shot showing three names we haven't heard before: "Glacier," "LED," and "Vision." Vision is listed with "TMO" next to it, suggesting it's coming to T-Mobile -- though we've no idea whether that's referring T-Mobile's European or American branch, which typically operate with virtually zero overlap. Glacier sounds like a phone that's either really slow, really cold, or is rapidly disappearing due to environmental forces beyond HTC's control, and LED sounds like..

Samsung Champ is about as basic as a touchphone’s gonna get
Look, the Star was so 2009 -- if you're curious about Samsung's vision for high-function handsets in developing markets this year, look no further than this C3300K "Champ" that was announced this week. This 2.4-inch little guy takes us back to an era when 3G was just a twinkle in the GSMA's eye, featuring quadband GSM plus EDGE, a QVGA display, 1.3 megapixel camera, 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 2.1, and microSD expansion up to 8GB
