Verizon apps start showing up in Windows Phone 7′s Marketplace, you figure out the rest
It's an open secret (okay, it's not really a secret at all) that Verizon plans to carry Windows Phone 7 handsets before too long, and in preparation for that grand event, it seems Big Red is populating the platform's Marketplace with a few wares. Verizon versions of Slacker Radio and Netflix are now in there alongside a carrier app -- My Verizon Mobile -- that lets you pull the usual stunts with your account like changing features and paying your bill.

Motorola has an LTE phone for Verizon in the works
Verizon's chief operating officer John Stratton mentioned today that "LTE smartphones are on the horizon," a sentiment the carrier has been echoing since it launched its 4G network earlier this month . That alone isn't new, but what is new is the mention of Moto in the same breath: "Motorola will be right there." He wouldn't go into specifics about models, specs, release dates, or prices, but we wouldn't be surprised if the offering looked a little like the Tegra 2 -powered device codenamed Olympus (pictured) -- allegedly for AT&T -- that we've seen floating around recently

Droid 2 R2-D2 falls to $200 on contract
With the original Droid 2 going for $149.99 and the newer, faster Droid 2 Global going for $50 more, the R2-D2 edition -- despite its awesomeness -- seemed a little out of place for a whopping $249.99, putting it out of reach of all but the most die-hard (and independently wealthy) Star Wars fanatics. Well, we wouldn't exactly call it a fire sale, but Big Red's cutting us a break now by trimming the price down to a more reasonable $199.99 -- in other words, you've got to choose between a speedier processor and international roaming capability..

Best Buy getting locked out of Droid Pro and Droid 2 Global for selling them too cheaply?
Drama! We're hearing from many, many tipsters right now that Best Buy has issued a stop-sale on two of Verizon's latest (and presumably more popular) models. Officially it's a "recall" of some sort, but the word on the street is that the carrier's preventing activations from Droid 2 Globals and Droid Pros sold at Best Buy locations.

Verizon slashes daily unlimited prepaid voice rate in half, now $1.99
This won't have much relevance to the lot of us that no longer user our voices to communicate, choosing instead to discuss current events with our friends just blocks away in 160-character chunks fired off on cramped QWERTY keyboards -- but if you look at carrying a phone as more of a necessary evil than a lifestyle accessory, this might be of interest.

Samsung ships 3M Galaxy S devices in the US, becomes top Android supplier in the country
You know what happens when you manage to launch essentially the same high-end smartphone on every national carrier in the US plus the top regional? Well, this happens: Samsung has just proudly announced that it's pushed some three million Galaxy S models in the US -- sold as the Fascinate , Captivate , Epic 4G , Vibrant , and Mesmerize on Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and US Cellular, respectively -- which gave it 32.1 percent of the US Android market in the third quarter according to Gartner, enough to vault it to the number one position

Verizon trials Home Phone Connect, turns your landline into a cellphone
We're aware of a few third-party products that pull off this trick by connecting to your cellphone via Bluetooth, but Verizon's throwing weight behind its own system called Home Phone Connect that'll connect your home phone into its wireless network. The system -- which seems to be available only to residents of New York and Connecticut at the moment -- includes some sort of base station that connects to Verizon's network on one end and your existing landline on the other; T-Mobile's now-defunct @Home service was similar, but used your internet connection to route the calls rather than the cellular airwaves. Subscribers pay $9.99 to add the landline to a Verizon family plan or $19.99 to grant it unlimited domestic minutes, which seems poised to cut into Verizon's legacy landline business just as much (if not more) than the unique Hub unit that got killed off a while back

Laptop data plans: comparing LTE, WiMAX, and HSPA+ by speed, price, and value
Now that Verizon's gone official with its LTE pricing for an initial launch in some 38 markets this Sunday, we wanted to take a quick look at how it compares to the other players in the laptop data market -- after all, how much you're paying month to month can be just as big of a determining factor (if not a bigger one) in choosing a carrier than the speeds you're seeing.
