Sure, Verizon's pushing tiered data plans in public, but it's simultaneously expanding its unlimited offerings behind closed doors -- yesterday, the wireless carrier launched a promotional plan with 450 minutes, unlimited text and unlimited data for $70 a month.

PSA: AT&T doesn’t charge you for OTA firmware updates

In speaking with AT&T today about the Captivate's latest update , we learned something interesting that we thought we'd pass on: data isn't deducted from your bucket for over-the-air firmware updates. That's important since updates can climb into triple-digit megabytes -- and if you're on one of AT&T's newer DataPlus or DataPro plans, you really don't have any data to squander. Obviously, this isn't going to take away the sting of unlimited data's untimely demise -- but the next time you get a notification on your phone that some shiny, new system update is available, don't hesitate to kick it off (unless you're in some foreign country, we suppose, in which case you could very well be bankrupted)

Virgin Mobile USA fortells unlimited prepaid mobile broadband for $40 a month

Whereas AT&T's move to tiered smartphone data pricing signaled "the end of unlimited" to some, Sprint subsidiary Virgin Mobile USA has just defied that notion with an all-you-can-eat broadband buffet priced at $40 per month.

Unlimited data option disappears from iPads, AT&T tells grandfathered customers not to worry

Even though AT&T's $30 unlimited data plan technically went the way of the dodo back on June 7 , the company had assured 3G iPad owners that they'd be entitled to one last hurrah -- buy an iPad prior to the 7th and you'd be allowed to grandfather into the old plan , even if you didn't receive your purchase by the deadline. Problem is, the unlimited plan option finally disappeared off AT&T-connected iPads for the first time today, leaving some of these eligible folks who haven't yet signed up for 3G data in the lurch

3G video call on Fring for Android: bringing HTC EVO 4G and Dell Streak together (hands-on)

Consider this: you may have an Android phone with a front-facing camera, and so do your distant loved ones (yes, friends count too). Now slap that free IM app Fring onto your phone, and the once-dormant chat camera shall finally come to life -- right now only the Streak and EVO 4G are confirmed to be supported, whereas the others (like the X10 ) will have to rely on their main cameras

AT&T users can keep $30 unlimited data when upgrading phones… unless they want tethering

There's naturally been a ton of feedback in the past few hours on AT&T's new data pricing strategy , and the company has been responding to comments all morning over on its Facebook page; one of the key tidbits that's come out of the discussion so far is that folks on the current $30 smartphone data plan will be able to keep that plan when upgrading hardware. Translation: yes, you'll be able to get a new iPhone without switching to the $25 / 2GB DataPro plan if you so choose. What you won't be able to do, though, is keep the $30 plan and add on the $20 tethering option -- tethering specifically requires DataPro, so your hopes and dreams of a soft 5GB cap are quashed (unless you want to pay $30 for 3GB of overage, of course)

Apple iPad 3G service plans on AT&T, $30 for unlimited data

In a direct blow to everyone else with a netbook and an unlimited data plan, AT&T has scored a deal to offer unlimited 3G data on 3G-capable versions of the iPad for $29.99 a month (then again, this is the same as an iPhone plan, and you're getting iPhone-level capability here). A 250MB plan, meanwhile, will be available for half that at $14.99 a month. Activation can happen right on the device -- no store visits or calls are necessary -- and there's no contract involved
