Rogers adds ‘data sharing’ plans, will carry both WiFi and cellular versions of BlackBerry PlayBook
With the precedent the Galaxy Tab has set, it was an open question whether carriers would embrace the WiFi version of RIM's BlackBerry PlayBook -- after all, it's a little harder to fully monetize a data plan on a device that lacks its own cellular modem. Thing is, the WiFi version is the first one that's going to be available; RIM hasn't given much guidance yet on when the cellular version will follow on -- and RIM doesn't have much of a distribution channel outside its carrier partners. Well, Rogers has thrown its hat in the ring today at its TabLife event in Toronto, where it has been chatting up the success of the tablets it's sold so far (the Tabs apparently won't stay on shelves) and noting that it will be carrying both versions of the PlayBook as they become available

Andy Rubin responds to Steve Jobs with a coded tweet
It's common knowledge that the first words uttered by any nerd are " hello world ." That is, unless some CEO starts bad-mouthing your open-source motivations. Google's Andy Rubin -- the father of Android , as it were -- just uttered his first words on Twitter with the tweet you see above

BlackBerry App World crosses the 10,000 app mark
It's been over a year since it hit 2,000 apps , but it looks like BlackBerry App World has finally hit its biggest milestone yet -- RIM has announced via Twitter that it's now "10,000 apps strong and growing." For those keeping track, that still leaves it well behind Apple's App Store and the Android Market, which by some estimates boast roughly 250,000 and 70,000 to 100,000 apps , respectively, and each of which also took less time to hit the 10,000 app mark. Even still, the fact that a smartphone platform "only" has 10,000 apps speaks quite a bit to how far we've come in just a few short years. BlackBerry App World crosses the 10,000 app mark originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 08 Sep 2010 22:53:00 EST.

HTC Peep cooked, served a l’orange by Twitter’s new authentication scheme
It's been known for some time that Twitter would be moving away from basic authentication to OAuth for third-party apps; in fact, they'd already officially pushed back the drop-dead switchover date once to mid-August before finally pulling the plug this week. Be that as it may, it makes sense that a bunch of lesser-known, less-maintained apps would fall by the wayside once the old security mechanism got shut down -- but HTC's Peep?
