The Engadget Mobile Podcast, live at 6:15 ET!
After an ever-so-brief hiatus, we're back in business today -- and as always, we've got a lot to discuss, possibly in a heated tone. Fortunately, the hosts are thousands of miles apart, so we can't injure one another. Follow the break for all the action! (Note: we're recording hot on the heels of the Engadget Classic podcast, so you might catch the tail end of it if you join the livestream early.) The Engadget Mobile Podcast, live at 6:15 ET! originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Fri, 30 Jul 2010 17:55:00 EST

Inside Apple’s ‘black lab’ wireless testing facilities
It's not surprising that after Apple finished explaining the iPhone 4 antenna issues to the press today, the company wanted to go one step further and say "yes, actually, we do test the hell out of these phones before we release them to the public." Though Steve Jobs went over the lengthy and intensive kinds of radio evaluation that goes on at Apple's headquarters, it didn't seem to be enough for the folks in Cupertino. And that, we suspect, is why we were invited (along with a small group of other journalists) to take a brief tour of Apple's Infinite Loop labs.

Palm Pre Plus launched on AT&T
The boardroom drama behind the HP acquisition wasn't the only Palm news today -- the company also launched the AT&T Palm Pre Plus . No surprises here -- it's going to $149, decidedly more than Verizon's $29 with free Mobile Hotspot service -- but hey, at least it's out there, and you get a free Touchstone in the deal, so that's nice.

Rhapsody for iPhone updated, now takes its music offline (in a good way)
We heard back in mid-March that Rhapsody for iPhone was getting an offline mode for downloading music and playing at times of no reception (like most subway rides). Good news, folks, today is the day the app get this coveted update. Lest we forget, too, with this summer's OS 4 release finally enables background music, Real's aural offering just got even more enticing

Palm’s SVP of software and services takes off, others (including CFO) given cash to stick around
No one really knows exactly what's going on inside the walls of Palm HQ this week -- whether the company will sink or swim is perhaps a bigger question right now than it has been since its rebirth last year, and if it does swim, whether it remains independent is another matter altogether. In an SEC filing today, Palm quietly revealed that its senior VP of software and services -- Michael Abbott (pictured above), a man who has been largely responsible for webOS as a platform and the critical Mojo and Ares SDKs -- will be gone as of April 23. More interestingly, though, it had to hook up a couple other key players with stock packages and $250,000 in cold, hard cash to get them to agree to stick around for a couple years: Jeff Devine, SVP of global operations, and Doug Jeffries, the CFO
