Hewlett Packard files trademarks for Gyst, Myte, and Veer: new Palm models?

Palm has never shied away from odd, short names for its devices -- take the Zire , for instance -- so when you hear that Palm's new owner has filed for trademarks on "Gyst," "Myte," and "Veer" in the category that covers smartphones, it doesn't take a very big leap of logic to believe that they're intended for future Palm models. HP's filings were all made on the 10th of this month, so they're very fresh; of course, companies of all types regularly file trademarks that they don't use either to throw off the Engadgets of the world or just in case they end up needing it down the road, so we wouldn't take these to mean there'll definitely be Veers on your carrier's shelf in 2011

myTouch HD confirmed by T-Mobile website, could be free on contract?

Erudite tipster Abe found this little gem -- if you search for "HSPA" at T-Mobile's online store, up pops the image above, and as you can no doubt see with your sparkling eyes, that's the myTouch HD we're looking at. Or perhaps just the "myTouch," as that's the moniker on this particular page, or even the "myTouch 2," as that's the name affixed to the tiny image. No matter what it's called, though, it looks like that front-facing camera is confirmed, and given our query we wouldn't be terribly surprised if it had HSPA+ connectivity too.

Shocker! Jorno folding Bluetooth keyboard available for pre-order

Of all the Bluetooth keyboards that have been released for portable devices lately, this is certainly one of them. Cervantes Mobile's Jorno doesn't look particularly comfortable, but it does fold up into a tiny square, it's got a cradle that will fit most handsets, and it's compatible your favorite Bluetooth HID profile-enabled devices. It will be out early next year for $99, although if you pre-order it now you can get it for a smooth $79 -- which is probably the upper limits of what we'd pay for it

Unreal Engine 3 up and running on webOS, and we’ve got video!

Palm just showed us the Unreal Engine 3 running on webOS, which apparently took a couple weeks to port over to the platform using that fancy new PDK . It runs at a pretty smooth clip, with just a tiny bit of artifacting in our enemy's death animation. As an added bit of wow factor, Palm has it currently setup to demonstrate the game at 1 fps when in card view

My Opinion: PS3 Wireless Controller May Cause Cancer

This wireless controller.  It is emitting a radio signal in all directions.  It's not an infared beam.  It's essentially a tiny radio broadcast unit.  The player typically holds this broadcast unit close to the human body and is subjecting human cells to a constant bombardment of radio signals.

LG CEO says about half of its new smartphones will run Android

Well, here's a tiny mystery of sorts that's emerged amidst all the hubbub of CES. As the Korea Herald reports, LG CEO Nam Yong reportedly said yesterday that while LG will have smart phones running on Windows Mobile, "about 50 percent of our smart phone models will run on Android." Now, that's not so hard to believe considering the number of LG Android phones we've already seen or heard about , but it is fairly surprising in light of the deal LG and Microsoft announced back at MWC last year, which supposedly made Windows Mobile LG's "primary smartphone OS." Obviously, something doesn't quite add up here, unless by "about half," LG actually means "less than half" -- which seems to be a distinct possibility. [Thanks, Jules] LG CEO says about half of its new smartphones will run Android originally appeared on Engadget on Sat, 09 Jan 2010 13:51:00 EST.
