Nokia’s Savander: ‘the Symbian Foundation will exist as an open source movement and we will use it’

The veracity of The Register 's information regarding the Symbian Foundation's future remains to be seen -- but for what it's worth, Nokia's outspoken vice president of markets, Niklas Savander, seems to have some pretty strong language about the platform's future in a recent interview with CNET Asia . Here's the money quote in response to a question about whether Espoo will pull the Foundation's operations back in-house after having spun them off as an open-source operation in 2008: "I don't see any reason for that

Dell Streak available for purchase ‘in late July,’ says US product page

It's funny to think, even after reviewing the device ( thrice , at this point ), that we still don't have an US release date for Dell's Streak . The company's been uncharacteristically coy, but the stateside product page does offer this tantalizing tidbit: "available for purchase in late July." That gives us a good 10-day window, so you've been eyeballing that pre-sale button with intent to click, now might be the time jump on the list. Android 2.2 coming to Nexus One, open source community ‘in the coming weeks’

Why, thanks Google ! Just a day after wrapping up a rather monumental Google I/O event in Northern California, the company's official show Twitter account has belted out a tidbit that just about every attendee was wondering about. According to the outfit, Android 2.2 (yeah, that's Froyo for the inexperienced) will be "made available to OEMs and the open source community in the coming weeks," and it'll be hitting up the HTC-built Nexus One in the "next few weeks." That's music to our ears, and if you're unsure what kind of impact this will have on your own life, feel free to take a deep dive into this right here . [Thanks, Alex] Continue reading Android 2.2 coming to Nexus One, open source community 'in the coming weeks' Android 2.2 coming to Nexus One, open source community 'in the coming weeks' originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 21 May 2010 16:08:00 EST.

Windows Phone 7 Series targeted at 38 year-old ‘life maximizers’

Here's a fun tidbit we just learned from Microsoft's Joe Belfiore: in order to focus Windows Phone 7 Series on the idea of best serving end users, the team actually created two fictional targets consumers named "Miles" and "Anna," a pair of married 38-year old "life maximizers" who demand the most from their devices. Yes, it's a little strange and hilariously specific on the surface -- Anna just scaled back her PR job to part-time so she can take care of the kids! Miles like to take pictures and use Facebook to share them with his parents in Europe! -- but it makes a certain amount of sense: Microsoft says it's trying to create a device that appeals to someone with both a work Exchange account and personal Gmail account, someone who needs to get work done but also wants to play 3D games, and it thinks that if Miles and Anna are happy, chances are a lot of other customer segments will satisfied as well.
