Radio Shack selling $99 EVO 4Gs with a trade-in, $80 myTouch 4Gs
Hey, EVO admirer: got a crappy phone you wouldn't mind seeing disappear? You might want to consider bringing it down to Radio Shack, where a new promo running through Christmas will net you a shiny new EVO 4G for $99 on contract if you bring in "any working handset," which should presumably include that dirt-encrusted StarTAC that's stuck in that no-man's land between "usable" and "collectible." From an article over on TmoNews , looks like they're also hawking you're choice of a myTouch 4G or G2 or $79.99 on contract if T-Mobile's more to your liking than Sprint (or if you don't have WiMAX coverage in your neck of the woods). Even better, any new activation will apparently get you a free Bluetooth headset, so you'll walk out of the store with a shiny new smartphone and a reason to keep it off your greasy face.

Droid Pro dropped to $50 on contract by Best Buy Mobile
If free Android phones on every US carrier weren't enough to entice you into a Best Buy Mobile store this month, maybe a deeply discounted Droid Pro will be. Motorola's Android 2.2 handset, which launched at $179.99 with the usual two-year Verizon tie-in, is now available for purchase for exactly $130 less at Best Buy's mobile outlets -- both the online and brick-and-mortar varieties will let you walk away with one for $49.99 and a 24-month commitment.

AutoBot app tracks your car if it tries to roll without you
We smell a Hasbro lawsuit coming with this one, but for now AutoBot is a funky name for a potentially great iPhone and Android app. Working in concert with a Bluetooth OBD-II dongle (not unlike the Superchips Vivid ), it lets you diagnose engine troubles, keep track of maintenance, and locate your car via GPS coordinates -- useful for when some Decepticon tries to make off with your ride or when you're simply running low on energon and can't remember where you parked

Bell Mobility hawking HTC Desire Z for $130 on contract
With the G2 floating around, it's easy for Americans to forget that a North American flavor of the HTC Desire Z does, in fact, exist -- you just need to run north of the border to get it.

Samsung Epic 4G, Galaxy Tab to get Sprint ID service
The forgettable Samsung Transform didn't get Sprint ID off to a strong start, but we wouldn't exactly call the initiative dead in the water: in fact, the carrier has announced that the service will be coming both to the Galaxy Tab and the Epic 4G "soon." We know from our time with the Transform that ID still needs some spit and polish to be useful, but in theory, the concept of being able to effortlessly switch between very comprehensive, deep-reaching themes on an Android device is a compelling one -- and it stands to reason that it'll get smoother after a revision or two. Presumably, this would be made available to existing Epic owners as an over-the-air firmware update, though Sprint hasn't announced whether that'll happen. Reckless Racing review (iPhone)
Developed by Swedish firm Pixelbite and released just a few days ago by EA and Polarbit, Reckless Racing is a game we've been following since it was known as "Deliverace" early this year -- and honestly, there was a spell where we'd gone so long without having heard anything about it that we'd kind of assumed the awesome-looking project had been canceled. Fortunately, that wasn't the case -- it's now available on iPhone , iPad , and Android -- so we decided to take it for a quick spin. After all, top-down racers haven't really made much noise since the heady days of R.C.

Google responds to Oracle’s Android patent lawsuit, we break it down
It's been just over a month and a half since Oracle first sued Google for infringing various Java-related patents in Android, and the big G's just filed its official response to the lawsuit after calling it " baseless ." For the most part, it's a pretty standard answer to a patent complaint: Google says Android doesn't infringe any of Oracle's patents, and even if it does, those patents are invalid and / or unenforceable for a variety of reasons anyway, so, you know, shove it. That's basically all Google -- or any patent defendant -- needs to say in the answer, and if that was it, we'd just note it and move on with our lives. But we were struck by the factual background section, which reads to us like Google's geared up for war: it basically accuses Sun and Oracle of not playing fair when it comes to Java's open-source license situation and directly implies that parts of Android are based on code that might require a patent license.

myTouch HD confirmed by T-Mobile website, could be free on contract?
Erudite tipster Abe found this little gem -- if you search for "HSPA" at T-Mobile's online store, up pops the image above, and as you can no doubt see with your sparkling eyes, that's the myTouch HD we're looking at. Or perhaps just the "myTouch," as that's the moniker on this particular page, or even the "myTouch 2," as that's the name affixed to the tiny image. No matter what it's called, though, it looks like that front-facing camera is confirmed, and given our query we wouldn't be terribly surprised if it had HSPA+ connectivity too.
