Nokia ends talk of Symbian^4, adopts HTML5 in Qt framework
Things are turning upside down in Espoo today. Samsung terminates support for Symbian
It was almost a year ago that a senior Samsung VP was quoted expressing plans to drop Symbian . Samsung quickly backtracked on those comments with a vague commitment to its multi-OS strategy. Well, the other shoe just dropped via an email sent to registered Symbian developers advising that Samsung would close its Symbian forum and remove all Symbian content by year's end.

Sprint lays out strategy for iDEN sunset, refreshed CDMA network
CDMA2000 isn't getting any younger -- but it's a spring chicken compared to iDEN , a network that has remained the de facto standard for push-to-talk fanatics against all odds, surviving occasional challenges to the throne and Boost Mobile's desire to dip its toes in the CDMA waters from time to time over the past couple years.

Psion veteran Charles Davies leaves Nokia for TomTom
Charles Davies might not be as immediately recognizable as some other industry veterans, but anyone that's been following this business since the early days of PDAs will no doubt be familiar with his work. Davies was Psion 's very first employee way back in 1981, and stuck with the company all the way up until 2003 when he left to join Symbian, before moving on to Nokia with the rest of the Symbian staff a few years later. During that time, Davies helped Psion pioneer the use of flash memory and custom silicon in handhelds, served as Symbian's CTO, and helped Nokia head up the strategy and architecture team for its R&D division.

Sprint still not ruling out LTE, says it’s not ‘mutually exclusive’ to WiMAX
The fact that Sprint is welcoming LTE vendors to respond to its RFP for upgrading its legacy CDMA network is no surprise -- in fact, it's no different than the line that the carrier has been taking for well over a year now . What is a bit of a surprise, though, is that it appears to be every bit as ambivalent about the direction of its 4G technology path as ever. The current RFP is strictly for an upgrade of Sprint's "core" network, meaning its legacy (if you can call 2G / 3G "legacy") footprint comprised solely of CDMA; its WiMAX assets aren't affected this time around.

Leaked slides show Windows Phone 7′s update strategy, Windows Live ID requirement, more
Though much of Microsoft's technical strategy for Windows Phone 7 materialized at MIX last month, the company stayed hazy on a handful of key details -- portions of the hardware specifications were left to guesses and hearsay, for instance, as was the software update strategy.

Palm also looking at licensing webOS and / or finding new investors
Although we've got the feeling that Palm will eventually be sold off, apparently that's not the only option on the table: Reuters has followed up last night's news that Palm is up for sale with some more details, including the revelations that Cisco is an interested buyer and Palm is also considering licensing webOS and / or seeking an additional infusion of cash from an outside investor. We're at all sure who'd be willing to join Bono's Elevation Partners in pumping more cash into Palm as it stands right now, but we can certainly see the company loosening the strings and licensing webOS to other manufacturers, something it did with great success back in the Palm OS days
