LG Optimus 2X: first dual-core smartphone launches with Android, 4-inch display, 1080p video recording
That's right, it's official. Needless to say, that LG Star we recently got our paws on is very real, though it won't go by that name at retail -- just as LG's own release materials had suggested , this monster has picked up the Optimus 2X name as it morphs from a prototype into brutally fast, overpowered reality. At the phone's heart beats a dual-core Tegra 2 processor running at 1GHz, the first such configuration to be officially announced by any smartphone manufacturer (though we're expecting others any day now).

LG Optimus U hitting US Cellular on December 13th, free on contract
LG's well-received Optimus line of budget Android sets continues to expand, impress, and go gentle on wallets around the world -- and the latest to launch will come from US Cellular in the form of the Optimus U. First mentioned last month during the Apex's release , the phone hits next Monday, December 13th -- and once you take the mail-in rebate of $80 into account, you won't pay a dime for it on a new two-year contract.

Windows Phone 7′s microSD mess: the full story (and how Nokia can help you out of it)
There are many reasons to be excited about Windows Phone 7 , but a bleak spot has been Microsoft's message -- or lack thereof -- on user-expandable storage, and the situation finally came to a head last week when AT&T told Samsung Focus owners to hold off on buying microSD cards altogether until Microsoft had a chance to certify some for use with the platform. How did it get to this point? Why wasn't it communicated to users that this was such a problem before the phones ever went on sale?

Samsung Focus review
Even though we've seen a torrent of Windows Phone 7 devices, we couldn't leave you hanging on a review of the Samsung Focus. In the last few days, a flurry of new Microsoft-powered devices have hit the market, boasting slight differences, but all looking and acting largely the same. We've taken a deep dive on the operating system itself, the Omnia 7 , Optimus 7 , Mozart , HD7 , and Surround (phew!) -- now it's time to focus on the, er..

LG Optimus 7 made official ahead of Windows Phone 7 launch, quickly yanked
Microsoft's been really keen to keep all the Windows Phone 7 fanfare to itself, but LG's equally zealous official UK blog has just thwarted that effort by posting both details and a gallery of images of the company's Optimus 7 (aka E900) handset online. To be fair to them, it's nothing a ton of leaks haven't already revealed: the Optimus 7 will be a 3.8-inch touchscreen device, sporting WVGA (800 x 480) resolution, 16GB of onboard storage, a 5 megapixel camera with a 720p video mode, Bluetooth 2.1, WiFi, a digital compass, and your usual proximity and ambient light sensors.

Samsung Omnia 7 brings 4-inch Super AMOLED screen to Windows Phone 7… a little early
Boy, there's hardly been enough time to catch our breath and analyze the first unintentionally official Windows Phone 7 handset in the form of LG's Optimus 7 , yet Samsung is already joining the fray with its own Omnia 7 . Currently populating its very own landing page on Samsung's Russian site, the Omnia 7 is a 4-inch Super AMOLED beastie with a rather aged 1GHz Qualcomm QSD8250 at its core, 8GB of storage, and a 5 megapixel cam that can do 720p video.

Visa rolling out payWave mobile phone payments in NY subway and taxis
DeviceFidelity's mobile twist on Visa's payWave system is a nice little solution to the fact that nobody's bothered to build contactless payment chips into US mobile phones just yet -- DeviceFidelity just stuffs the Visa smart chip circuitry into a microSD card and lets you on your way. Of course, this supplants the much needed additional storage on an Android handset, and requires a chunky add-on case for the iPhone, but at least it's a start. Visa will now start allowing those payWave-enabled devices to make contactless payments at subway turnstiles and taxi backseats in New York City as part of a new trial for the tech

Samsung i8700 for Windows Phone 7 leaks, puts developer prototype to shame
Could this be the best-looking Windows Phone 7 device yet? That's open to some personal interpretation, of course, but Sammy's alleged i8700 is looking like quite the beast -- and it should assuage any lingering fears that the Omnia HD -based prototypes floating around would be influencing final ID for the company's numerous WP7 launches later this year. If we had to venture a guess, we'd say this is probably that unnamed model we saw not long ago, identified by its sharp, squared-off edges and the button layout below the display
