Broadcom announces dual-core BCM2157 processor, promises high-end features for cheap Android phones

As you might have heard , 2011 is shaping up to be a big year for dual-core smartphones , and it looks like you can now officially count Broadcom in on the act. It's just announced its new dual-core BCM2157 platform that provides both HSDPA modem connectivity and applications processing courtesy of some dual-core, 500MHz ARM11 processors.

It may simply be a case of stating the obvious, but NVIDIA has just published a rather lengthy whitepaper extolling the many benefits of multi-core processors for mobile devices.

Target offering iPhone 4, 3GS starting November 7th

See, you were hoping this would end with something like "...and they'll be the exclusive retailers of the white iPhone 4 ." Yeah, no -- just the standard-issue iPhone 3GS and black iPhone 4 here, coming to Target Mobile locations nestled within some 846 Targets across the country starting on November 7 with the same pricing as everywhere else.

iPhone DST bug causing alarms to fail across Europe

An iPhone bug already seen when Australia switched between Daylight Savings Time and Standard Time a few weeks ago has now hit Europe. Twitter is alight with reports of recurring iPhone alarms going off an hour later than usual.

Android NDK hits Release 3, brings OpenGL ES 2.0 access to devs

We know from a brief spat of iPhone 3GS controversy that OpenGL ES 2.0 brings a new level of immersive realism to 3D gaming on mobile devices, so Android developers (and users, for that matter) should be delighted to hear that a new release of the official Native Development Kit exposes its capabilities to anyone targeting Android 2.0 or higher.
