HTC Arrive and Kyocera Echo bow for Sprint?

Okay, armchair sleuths, this one’s for you — we’ve got two very legit-looking logos here, but not a lot of proof. Our tipster tells us that both of these high-quality vector graphics are the names of upcoming devices for Sprint, with the HTC Arrive (née Ruby) allegedly an upcoming Windows Phone 7 device, while Kyocera Echo is apparently the retail name for the phone internally known as the Sanyo Orange. It just so happens that the trademark for “HTC Arrive” was registered the very same day we received this logo, so we think we’re onto something here, but the truth of the matter is that all of these codenames are falling on virgin ears.

[Thanks, anonymous]

Sprint still 3G-$ 10/mo subscription pricing, calling it a “premium data”

Oh, Sprint, you’re a crafty devil. The country’s third largest airline just announced that it is tacking an extra $ 10 monthly premium information “free of charge to all 3G data plan – actually charging a 3G phone owners of the same whole, and the Epic Evo owners pay now 4G services. It is particularly strange, because Sprint hidden price increase in a statement titled “Smartphones Drive Wireless Data Explosion”, which initially appears to be more information before moving on suddenly must defend the additional costs and potshots tiered data plans – we do not know nobody wants to talk about increasing prices, but let’s have gumption, guys. All holders of current 3G plan will not see their rates go up, until they “upgrade or switch to another smartphone,” does not sound like a big family plan, but we will get clarification, and to say you. Either way, we’d say picking up the phone, Sprint 4G just real silly. PR after the break.

Sprint adheres to its roadmap, turns on WiMAX in San Francisco Bay Area

Technically speaking, it’s not actually the 28th of December in the Bay Area yet, but Sprint’s already out in front with its announcement that WiMAX connectivity has been activated in and around the city of San Francisco. We were promised this development exactly three weeks ago, back when Los Angeles and Washington DC were first familiarizing themselves with the glorious new speed, and today the Bay Area, which also includes San Jose, Palo Alto and Oakland, adds to a total of 71 metropolitan markets that have been lit up with Sprint’s finest wireless offering. Guess Verizon had better start fast and keep running if it wants to keep up, eh?

android
by Ben Templesmith

I have some ideas for android and possibly iphone apps, but I have a pc and only know some javascript. Does anyone know of some software that I can get that would make creating apps easier? I have already signed up for Google’s App Inventor and I am waiting for an invite. I have also installed appcelorator, but it isn’t that easy to use.

Is there an android app that changes the appearance of an incoming call? I have the samsung intercept, and I don’t like the way an incoming call looks. Its too plain and when I assign an personal caller ID to a contact, the picture is too small.
By the way, I don’t get the little AndroidBot that usually pops up on android devices. Its the outline of a person and its gray.

Net neutrality: Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile react

Amazingly, the FCC still hasn't released the full text of the net neutrality rules it passed by a contentious 3-2 vote yesterday, so we can't really say much about what's in them -- and while this sort of delay is typical of the Genachowski FCC, it hasn't stopped the carriers from issuing statements on the new rules. We've got to say, responses to the new rules range all over the map: Sprint commended the FCC, T-Mobile needs some time to look things over, AT&T called it a "fair middle ground" but railed about "radical voices" and "heavy-handed government regulation" (seriously) and Verizon -- well, Verizon issued what appears to be a veiled threat to sue everyone

HTC EVO Shift 4G spotted in the wild, said to have 800MHz CPU

We had our doubts the last time we encountered an HTC EVO Shift 4G , but it looks like they were mostly unfounded -- here's Sprint's new QWERTY slider in the flesh -- armor finally shed -- revealing a chrome bezel beneath. PhoneArena obtained these pics from an anonymous tipster, who says the device has an 800MHz processor much like the T-Mobile G2, and while we can't infer much more about the internals than we have before , there are a few new things to note: HTC Sense is alive and well, there's a particularly large camera module buried in the smooth plastic back and a headphone jack up top, and it appears there's a pair of status LEDs for Caps Lock and Function Lock right above the keyboard.

webOS 2.0 for the Sprint Palm Pre leaks out, added features in tow

Palm promised that webOS 2.0 would hit all of its devices in the "coming months," and it looks like work is trucking right along -- we were just sent these shots of the updated OS running in beta form on the original Sprint Palm Pre. Obviously there's not much here that we didn't pore over in our exhaustive webOS 2.0 review , but we're noting the addition of voice dialing and some preferences for the screensaver-like Exhibition View -- we're told just the time works right now, but photos, agenda view, and Facebook are all listed

Official Froyo update for Samsung Intercept going awry, Sprint investigating; unofficial fix available for now

Samsung's really struggling to release solid Android firmware updates, as evidenced by the Bell Vibrant situation -- and now, this little mess. Sounds like some Intercepts on Sprint are dying after applying the official update to Android 2.2 released a few days ago, prompting Sprint to put out an official statement today: " It has been brought to our attention that some customers may be experiencing issues with the Android 2.2 (Froyo) software upgrade for the Samsung Intercept. Some users have reported their device to be unresponsive after the upgrade is completed.

Sprint TV brodcasting 30 college bowl games, including entire BCS

Quick: can you name 30 college football bowl games? Well, if you keep your face glued to your Sprint phone's screen for the next couple weeks, you'll be able to, thanks largely to the partnership Sprint inked with ESPN earlier this ear to bring ESPN Mobile TV to its devices. You'll be able to get to the games on your phone through either Sprint TV or the dedicated Sprint Football Live app, which are available on "most" models in Sprint's lineup and cost you nothing as long as you're signed up for unlimited data

Radio Shack selling $99 EVO 4Gs with a trade-in, $80 myTouch 4Gs

Hey, EVO admirer: got a crappy phone you wouldn't mind seeing disappear? You might want to consider bringing it down to Radio Shack, where a new promo running through Christmas will net you a shiny new EVO 4G for $99 on contract if you bring in "any working handset," which should presumably include that dirt-encrusted StarTAC that's stuck in that no-man's land between "usable" and "collectible." From an article over on TmoNews , looks like they're also hawking you're choice of a myTouch 4G or G2 or $79.99 on contract if T-Mobile's more to your liking than Sprint (or if you don't have WiMAX coverage in your neck of the woods). Even better, any new activation will apparently get you a free Bluetooth headset, so you'll walk out of the store with a shiny new smartphone and a reason to keep it off your greasy face.

ITU capitulates, admits that the term ’4G’ could apply to LTE, WiMAX, and ‘evolved 3G technologies’

Though it's standing firm on the definition of its original 4G specification -- IMT-Advanced -- which only WiMAX 2 and LTE-Advanced are currently capable of meeting, the ITU is easing off its earlier rhetroic , admitting that the term "4G" realistically could apply "to the forerunners of these technologies, LTE and WiMAX, and to other evolved 3G technologies providing a substantial level of improvement in performance and capabilities with respect to the initial third generation systems now deployed." The whole dust-up started when carriers around the world deploying LTE and WiMAX networks ( ahem , Sprint and Verizon) were throwing the "4G" term around very, very loosely -- and to their credit, the networks are indisputably a generation beyond CDMA2000 and UMTS / HSPA, so if anything, we'd fault the ITU for leaving today's modern networks without a generation to call their own. The "evolved 3G technologies" verbiage in the ITU's statement would seemingly even leave room for T-Mobile USA's claim that its 21Mbps HSPA+ network constitutes 4G... so yeah, score one for marketing campaigns.
