Motorola Olympus shows up in the wild, demonstrates unyielding commitment to Motoblur

Witness our last review of an Android smartphone from Motorola and you'll know what we think of Motoblur . Then again, we reckon we could get over our qualms when Moto's skin is stretched out over this delectable-looking, supposedly Tegra 2-boasting smartphone. The Olympus has been snapped again, this time by someone claiming to have bought it at a flea market , and it now shows off an HDMI output alongside the standard microUSB connector, both of which are planted on the side of what's looking like a very thin device indeed.

The whole world and his neighbor's dog may already know when Windows Phone 7 will be announced , but when are the actual phones going to hit actual shelves? If you're in the US, that time still looks to be a month away , but the UK release window has just been narrowed down from late October to a single, albeit still speculative, date: October 21. Facebook phone rumors resurface, Mark Zuckerberg fails to deny them

Let's try to untangle this Facebook mobile phone mess, shall we? Mark Zuckerberg has recently sat down with Michael Arrington of TechCrunch -- the source of the original rumor -- to try and dispel some of the confusion that has arisen as a result. The first thing the Zuckmeister says is that Facebook isn't looking to build its own OS or hardware and is absolutely opposed to competing with the likes of the iPhone and Android

T-Mobile G2 gets a teaser site, will be network’s first HSPA+ phone

It's called the G2, it'll run Android, and it's T-Mobile's first phone to ride those wannabe-4G HSPA+ airwaves. Those are the facts we have. As to the speculation, a previous roadmap leak and T-Mobile's own reps indicate it'll be a HTC-built handset set for a September release, while a careful eyeballing of that silhouette leads us to thinking it's the same device as the purported myTouch HD we've been seeing around here lately.

Nokia quarterly profits drop 40 percent year-on-year as CEO says speculation must end ‘one way or another’

Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo was already a man in a hot seat and these latest numbers will do little to lower the temperature. Nokia's net profit for Q2 2010 was €221 million, which most companies would be happy with were it not for the fact that this company pulled in €380 million in the same quarter last year -- and that's with 2009, as Nokia's own report indicates, representing an economically tougher environment. Average selling prices for Nokia handsets used to be €64 back then, which dipped to €62 in the first quarter of this year, and is now at €61.

Verizon Wireless changing to Verizon this Sunday, massive new branding campaign planned?

So Droid Life -- which has earned itself a solid record in the rumor game as of late -- is reporting that Verizon Wireless will be dropping the "Wireless" portion of its name this weekend and announcing that it won't be carrying the iPhone 4 , instead concentrating on its high-end line of Android devices that it's done an admirable job of building up lately. We can't speak to the validity of the iPhone stuff, but we're starting to believe the rest now that we've been independently tipped on a new branding campaign that'll focus on the tagline "Rule the Air." Interestingly, it would seem that changing the name to Verizon risks confusing the company with one of its two corporate parents -- Verizon Communications -- which leads us to wonder whether this is a sign that Vodafone could be getting close to relinquishing control of its sizable minority share after years of speculation .

Palm confirms new devices, webOS upgrade

Ever since HP CEO Mark Hurd said he wasn't interested in smartphones , it's like the company's been making up for lost time -- first by denying the exec's predilections, and more recently by actually asking us to speculate wildly . Now Palm's Developer Relations team has reportedly stepped in to confirm that speculation, telling devs that future devices and a new version of webOS are on the way. While there's no knowing if those devices are smartphones or when we might see them, we're told to expect a "very exciting" next year

Engadget Mobile Podcast 040 – 05.27.2010

Hey y'all, we are back! Was it worth the wait? Things have been a little loco since we last rapped at ya, so you know there's going to some strange stuff going down in this podcast -- EVO 4G analysis from the pedestrian (kickstand worship) to the positively Ziegleresque ( Froyo - delicious enough to be worth the wait?), and speculation on a few devices found in the bottom of executives' dumpsters
