Samsung pulls Froyo update for Bell’s Vibrant after reports of fried internal storage
We have no idea why Samsung's having such a hard time delivering its overdue promised Froyo upgrades worldwide for the Galaxy S series, but it's not looking any easier for them this weekend: the only Canadian Galaxy S to get upgraded so far, Bell's Vibrant, has just had its update pulled. Seems a healthy number of users attempting the upgrade using Sammy's Kies desktop software ended up with inaccessible internal storage, which sucks for a variety of obvious reasons -- and that would be the apparent reason for the removal of the update.

Dell: ‘Venue Pros are being reworked in the factories,’ ship schedule unclear
The Venue Pro delay situation certainly isn't getting any clearer with Dell's latest update on its support forums, but we know this much for sure: the new kid on the smartphone block still has a few things to learn about shipping handsets. A post from a Dell moderator says the company is working directly with Microsoft to draft a battle plan and that current Venue Pro owners (those that got their devices early on from Microsoft stores, that is) "might require another hardware swap" to get their issues solved

What financial trouble? Modu T goes on sale in UK
Modu might be on life support , but that doesn't mean that its latest effort -- the touch-enabled Modu T -- isn't seeing the light of day. British retailer PurelyGadgets (which also launched the original Modu earlier this year) has just announced that it has the new model in stock, charging

Google Instant for mobile studies abroad: now in 40 countries, 28 languages
We'll keep it short and to the point: Google Instant for Mobile -- that is, for iOS4 and Android 2.2 devices and up, officially -- has taken an accelerated language program or two. Or 28, rather, representing 40 countries.

Verizon happy to offer Windows Phone 7 devices ‘as soon as Microsoft has ‘em ready’
Yes, Verizon's calling them "Windows 7 mobile devices," but the underlying message is clear -- Verizon's tossing the Windows Phone 7 CDMA ball squarely into Microsoft's court. There are no CDMA-ready smartphones running Microsoft's latest mobile operating system (save the late-blooming HTC 7 Pro for Sprint) and Verizon doesn't intend to take any of the blame for that. You're up, Microsoft.

HTC HD7 (aka Schubert) pictured in glorious monochrome, headed to T-Mobile for $200?
We've seen O2 Germany's HTC Schubert and a Chinese HD3 , but here's a giant Windows Phone 7 device with "T-Mobile" clearly painted on the upper right-hand corner of the screen. TmoNews got these alleged images of the HTC HD7 from their usual anonymous source along with a partial spec sheet, which actually claims slightly different dimensions for the phone and double the amount of flash memory (16GB in all) than we heard before . Different strokes for different folks, or is one of these two rumors totally off

Sharp IS03 ASV display vs. iPhone 4 IPS display… fight!
Two 3.5-inch displays at 960 x 640 resolution, both equipped with fancy wide viewing angle technologies. Does the Sharp IS03's ASV get the nod over the iPhone 4's famously good IPS?

RIM files ‘SurfBook’ trademark in Canada, cyberspace awaits
It's pretty common for companies in the heat of product development to file for trademarks, domain names, and patents first and ask questions later, so we can understand (we guess) that RIM took the initiative to put the milquetoast "BlackPad" on lock earlier this year for the tablet it's almost certainly working on -- the logic, of course, is that if you fire enough shots in the dark, at least one of your filings isn't going to suck. To that end, it looks like the boys and girls in Waterloo filed for "SurfBook" in early August, though it's only showing up in Canada's filing system at this point -- there's no matching documentation in the USPTO just yet

HTC Desire HD rendered, looks pretty legit to us — oh, except for that WinMo UI
The stars are really aligning for this shindig HTC has scheduled in London for next week, aren't they? All signs point to the launch of the Android-powered Desire Z and Desire HD -- international versions of the G2 and EVO , respectively -- and this render pulled off of German site BestBoyZ matches up perfectly with in-the-wild shots we've seen of the HD before. The only sticking point, really, is that there's a Windows Mobile 6.5 Sense UI shot inexplicably plastered on top, which makes about as much sense as...

Apple investigating issues with iOS 4 upgrade on iPhone 3G
Back when we outlined the iOS 4 features missing from iPhone 3G , we forgot one key bullet point: performance. As more and more two-year veterans of Apple's phones have taken the plunge and upgraded to the latest firmware, slowdown and battery drain issues have become a common complaint, which is even more irksome when you think of just how little the update really adds to the UI. The Wall Street Journal reports speaking to an Apple spokesperson who said the company is looking into the matter.
