Okay, now this is getting ridiculous. It’s been literally less than 48 hours since we saw the first in-depth Chinese-language preview of Sony’s still yet-to-be-confirmed PlayStation Phone, and believe it or not, we’ve got another one. (Our resident translator Richard Lai suggests this might be the same PS Phone just being passed around the various websites.) It’s just as long and arguably just as in-depth with an absolute ton of comparison pics with the PSP Go, the Xperia lineup, a DSi, a Droid… the list goes on. Much of what’s written is the same, and the PlayStation Pocket app is still a mystery. The preview does say a third-party emulator was downloaded and tested, with 70 percent success, but that doesn’t actually tell us anything. Anyway, even if you don’t know Chinese, hit up the source and bask in the glory of a ton more pics.

Does the quality of the text to speech voices improve when the operating system is upgraded to 2.1?

Also, what is the best text to speech app? I DON’T need an app that reads your texts. I need a text to speech app that speaks what you type into the phone, because I’m non-verbal.

Is there a Thai company, we never heard of just to make the best looking portrait QWERTY Android phone now? We can not have a head start fast – but it’s definitely there. Vizio made its name by packing high end features into value-priced HDTVs and it’s taking that mentality to new areas, revealing the tablet we spotted in last night’s Rose Bowl ad as the 8-inch Via Tablet and a 4-inch Via Phone. Both will be running Android and while CTO Matthew McRae didn’t spill any OS details to the Wall Street Journal, the combination of confirmed Market access and odd button configuration has us thinking Honeycomb is in the works when they are released this summer. The only Via Phone details mentioned are screen size and its front and 5MP rear cameras, while the tablet promises a “high resolution” screen, WiFi, three speakers, HDMI out and front facing camera — but no cellular service.

Expect TV manufacturers to be on their toes as well, since Vizio says it will bring 3DTVs to market that start at less than $ 300. The new mobile products will also tie into its TV business through the Via Plus internet service, which sounds a lot like Samsung Apps by allowing access to Netflix, Facebook, Twitter, Android market access (to go along with its new Google TVs) and even a new Vizio On Demand movie services across all of its devices. We’ll temper our excitement slightly remembering the new TVs and iPhone app shown off last year that never quite made it to shelves, but this trip to Vegas has already gotten even more interesting.

If there’s one thing the 90s taught us, it’s that these silly 2D interfaces are only a passing fancy, and soon everything will be VRML-based mirror worlds of our physical space. SurfCube is a small, tentative step in that direction, turning the browser into a fake 3D experience of sorts, with favorites on “top,” and history and settings on the “sides,” while the front face of the cube is, naturally, the browser part. You can get around with swipes and flashy tilt gestures, and for $ 1.99 on the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace it’s hard to go wrong. I have some ideas for android and possibly iphone apps, but I have a pc and only know some javascript. Does anyone know of some software that I can get that would make creating apps easier? I have already signed up for Google’s App Inventor and I am waiting for an invite. I have also installed appcelorator, but it isn’t that easy to use.

Is there an android app that changes the appearance of an incoming call? I have the samsung intercept, and I don’t like the way an incoming call looks. Its too plain and when I assign an personal caller ID to a contact, the picture is too small.
By the way, I don’t get the little AndroidBot that usually pops up on android devices. Its the outline of a person and its gray.

The PlayStation phone keeps popping up time and again, and still no one at Sony is going to flat-out admit anything — but that hasn’t stopped stopped playful speculation. Even SCE chief Kaz Hirai is joining in the fun. “We don’t want gamers to be asking, what’s the difference between that [a PS phone] and a PSP… we have to come up with a message that users will understand,” he told The New York Times. “It would have to be a product that keeps the PlayStation‘s strengths intact.” So that’s the issue, then, differentiating a new PSP and a variant with phone capabilities — nothing a good marketing campaign can’t fix, if you ask us.

But enough about the phone, what of the PlayStation‘s portable brand in general? Hirai seems to fancy touch controls, actually. “Depending on the game, there are ones where you can play perfectly well with a touch panel,” he said, adding that “immersive games” — the ones he think are Sony’s focus, vs. the more casual fare offered by Apple and Android — do well with physical buttons, and that some games work well with the two. We can’t help but notice he said touch panel and not touch screen, which reminds us of the touchpad we saw on the PS phone leaks, but we wouldn’t want to harp too much.

It’s an open secret (okay, it’s not really a secret at all) that Verizon plans to carry Windows Phone 7 handsets before too long, and in preparation for that grand event, it seems Big Red is populating the platform’s Marketplace with a few wares. Verizon versions of Slacker Radio and Netflix are now in there alongside a carrier app — My Verizon Mobile — that lets you pull the usual stunts with your account like changing features and paying your bill. ‘Course, they can drop 50 apps in there and it still doesn’t mean much without hardware… so hopefully we see that Trophy launch within a few weeks.
