LG VL600 LTE / CDMA modem for Verizon in the wild?
You might remember that an LTE modem for Verizon passed FCC muster not long ago -- now, it seems we're getting our first glimpse of it. As is usually the case with these early devices on next-gen networks, this USB stick doesn't look quite as svelte as we'd probably like it to be, but we have little doubt that they'll get progressively thinner and sexier over the course of a year or three. And hey, in the meantime, far be it from us to steer clear of faster download speeds just because the modem's a little chubby, you know?

AT&T announces slew of network investments for 2010
AT&T's preaching about the mucho dinero it's dropping into renovating its network to pretty much anyone who'll listen these days, and a veritable cornucopia of press releases this week start to go into detail on some of the upgrades we'll be seeing over the course of 2010. We're counting at least a dozen here, covering everything from New York City to Florida to Oklahoma, but the message is basically the same in every one: more cell sites, more 3G coverage, more backhaul.

China Unicom profits down 50 percent, NTT DoCoMo up by the same margin
Call it proof that there's a global wireless karma equilibrium, if you will, that needs to be maintained: China Unicom has warned that its net profit for 2009 will be down a whopping 50 percent, while one of its doppelgangers across the Sea of Japan -- NTT DoCoMo -- has encountered exactly the opposite fortune on news that it has posted a 48 percent year-over-year improvement in black ink.

Huawei U8230 quick hands-on
Some of you may be familiar with the Huawei U8230's corporate cousin, the U8220, sold on T-Mobile UK as the Pulse -- and it comes as no surprise that there's very little different in the new model. Like the Pulse, the U8230 features a 3.2 megapixel cam paired with a secondary VGA piece up front, quadband EDGE / triband HSPA, and a 3.5-inch display. The screen's decent and the system seems snappy enough (for a virgin demo unit, anyway), but the navigation buttons below are all placed along a single piece of plastic with mechanical switches underneath

Street-Smart Language Learningâ„¢: Can you help me improve my …
I've also had to review documents in other languages, such as Spanish and French, and there have been phone calls to Latin America, so any words I've had to look up have ended up mixed in my mostly Japanese iAnki reps.
