Nexus S gets its first update over the air

We don't know what it fixes yet, but we've gotten some tips -- and we're now seeing it on xda-developers -- that Nexus S handsets in the field are getting blessed with their first software update, build GRH78 (up from GRH55) with an official version of 2.3.1. Not everyone has it yet (we don't on ours), so as usual, this would seem to be getting sent out on a rolling basis. Hang tight, owners! [Thanks to everyone who sent this in] Nexus S gets its first update over the air originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 22 Dec 2010 14:53:00 EST.

Nexus One will get Gingerbread OTA update ‘in the coming weeks’

The original Google phone got us all excited a couple of weeks back when an OTA update was presumed to be the oven-hot Gingerbread upgrade, only to disappoint us. Now we've got the most lucid statement from the Android chefs yet on when the real Gingerbread Nexus One will stand up, which is placed in the relatively ill-defined window of "the coming weeks." HTC Desire official Froyo rollout commences on T-Mobile UK

We knew it was coming to European carriers, and it's already hit unlocked phones , but if your HTC Desire is bound and chained to T-Mobile UK, you'll be getting a feature-filled Android 2.2 update any day now. The official T-Mobile UK forums announced the news, which has been corroborated by a number of tipsters who say they've already received the download, but if yours doesn't appear, never fear, the frozen yogurt is just being dished out in small, slow-churned batches like usual. "The 2.2 firmware update (FroYo) will be available from today and will be sent over the air (OTA) direct to your phone over the coming weeks" is the official word, for those of you who prefer direct quotes.

Shocker! MobiTV customers prefer larger, easy to see displays

MobiTV wants you to know that its ESPN Mobil TV offering had 100 percent uptime during the recent World Cup . Also, it's parsed some of the subscriber data that it accumulated during the tournament, and the analysis is in: subscribers with 5-inch displays watched an average of 118.2 minutes of soccer, while those with 2-inch displays watched almost half that (about 61.1 minutes on average). That's right: people with displays that are large enough to actually see what's goin' on will watch more TV than those with displays roughly the size of a postage stamp

Google adding over-the-air app installation and iTunes streaming to Android

Sure sure, Froyo is great and all, but Google just blew our minds with two previews of upcoming Android features at I/O: OTA application installation and remote music streaming. OTA installation is just as simple as you'd expect -- after browsing to an app on your desktop, you can push it to your phone and install it with just a single click, all done over the air. Interestingly, Google also showed music being purchased and transferred from Android Marketplace in the same way, which could indicate a deeper push towards music integration, or just be a nice demo.
