T-Mobile UK cuts ‘fair use’ allowance to 500MB, sends you home to watch online video

In one of the most insensitive announcements in recent PR history, T-Mobile UK is telling its customers who want to download or stream online video to their mobile devices to “save that stuff for [their] home broadband.” The carrier, one half of the UK’s biggest operator Everything Everywhere, had up until now offered one of the better monthly allowance deals with a 3GB data consumption limit on Android phones. It still is, in fact, since its new changes aren’t coming into effect until February 1st, but come that fateful Tuesday, T-Mo’s understanding of “fair use” will shrink down to 500MB each month — after which point you’ll still get to browse the web and email for free, but any video content will presumably be subject to an extra charge. It’s not clear how “that stuff” will be handled by T-Mobile once you cross the frugal new threshold, nor is it clear whether customers who signed up for big bodacious 3GB of data will be set free once this new lockdown on mobile video is in effect. Godspeed to you all.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Nexus S for T-Mobile gets brief Best Buy Mobile nod: there and gone again

Well, this was rather unexpected. Earlier today, Best Buy Mobile published a humble (if not incomplete) ad for the "Nexus S for T-Mobile ," touting both its "pure Google" experience (i.e. vanilla Android) and holiday availability exclusively from Best Buy.

AT&T clarifies Windows Phone 7 launch parameters: no pre-orders, online sales are a go

November 8th is creeping ever closer, and aside from it marking the beginning of yet another long, drawn-out week in the working world, it's also the first day you can get your paws around a Windows Phone 7 device from AT&T. Much in the same way that it did before subsequent iPhone launches , the carrier has come forward with a few vital pieces of information to chew on before making any incorrect assumptions. Company representative Warner May confirmed to Phone Scoop that online sales for Windows Phone 7 devices (the Samsung Focus and HTC Surround ) would indeed go live on launch day, debunking rumors that the phones would only be available for the grabbing in retail locations

Google halting Nexus One sales through official store after current inventory depleted

We knew this was eventually coming , and here it is: Google is giving everyone the heads-up that it just got a fresh batch of Nexus Ones in stock, and once they've been sold through, they'll no longer be offered directly through the company's online store. For what it's worth, the customer service lines will stay open even after that happens -- and you'll still be able to buy a phone through KT in South Korea, Vodafone in Europe, and "possibly other [retailers] based on local market conditions" -- but by and large, your average American is going to have a hard time getting one pretty shortly. If you're a registered Android developer, though, Google's looking at continuing to offer the device through some sort of sales partner -- a wise move considering it'll be just about the only thing you can buy unlocked running a clean-slate latest build

Verizon’s Droid Eris goes on permanent vacation

You might have figured that the recent update to Android 2.1 would've given Verizon's Droid Eris a few months of additional shelf life, but alas, it was not to be; the phone is no longer available from Verizon's online store, and we'd assume that any remaining inventory in the field will dwindle to nothingness in the coming weeks. If anything, it seems like the device -- basically a tweaked Hero -- would be able to effectively soldier on indefinitely for $50 or so on contract, but maybe the carrier's intent on keeping Android a higher-end affair for the time being

L5 universal remote for iPhone now shipping for $50

Back in the olden days, you spent the better part of a grand for a big touchscreen programmable universal remote -- and if you were lucky, it might have a color display. But this is 2010, which means you spend fifty bucks, slap a little black box to the bottom of your iPhone, and call it good.

Verizon’s Nexus One could be arriving ‘by the end of next week’ (updated)

Let's start with the obvious proviso here, the above image is so painfully easy to fake that even our computer illiterate grandparents could mock one up within a few minutes. That said, it's purportedly a screenshot of a little oopsie by Google's online store, which is said to have briefly displayed the Verizon option for Nexus One handsets as available to buy for $199 plus the relevant contractual shackles.

Sony prepping new line of handhelds, including PSP phone?

You know who knows everything? People familiar with the matter. In particular, they know everything when "the matter" happens to be Sony's handheld strategy for 2010, which is said to finally include an honest-to-goodness PSP with phone capabilities -- something the world's been demanding for as long as they've wanted a Zunephone

Can you buy nexus one in a store and not online?

Is there anywhere in the U.S. (San Francisco, to be exact) that you can buy a Nexus googles in a store and not in line with the Google Store. . . im way for about 5 days and my parents told me that the only way I could get one is if you buy in a store. And no, I can buy in my country (Australia), as it will be for some time there basoh and then buy an unlocked one from a T-Mobile Store? or are all locked to their network
