AT&T says New York 850MHz 3G upgrade is complete, voice quality improved 47 percent

AT&T's service in New York City has long been decried as some of the worst in the nation -- we've heard people claim 30 percent of iPhone calls drop on average -- but hopefully things are about to get a lot better, as Ma Bell's just finished its 850MHz 3G upgrade in the city. That means the carrier should have more capacity in all five boroughs, and we're told voice quality has improved 47 percent since last quarter

T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network goes live in New York City

Manhattan is in need of as much wireless love as the nation's carriers can give it -- and shy of WiMAX or LTE , the next best thing is some good, old-fashioned HSPA+ with theoretical speeds going all the way up to 21Mbps.

Next week’s Apple event to be iLife / iPhone OS 4.0 / tablet trifecta?

We're realistically no closer to knowing the outcome of next week's Apple event than we were a week, a year, or a decade ago, but rumors are obviously congealing around the mythical tablet that users, fans, and media have all but willed into existence recently -- and our buddy Clayton Morris says that's indeed a part of the story. Morris reports having spoken with a source at Apple this morning -- prior to the company's invites going out, interestingly -- who said that the event would focus on a new version of iLife, iPhone OS 4.0, and naturally, the tablet. Loosely speaking, you can see how these would all tie together pretty nicely: the seemingly "creative" theme of Apple's invite rolls into a new version of iLife, and the announcement of a tablet could have implications for how a suite of artsy tools gets used.
