Sony Ericsson mystery handset leaks out, provides juicy rumor material

Do you recognize this handset? Neither do we, and that’s kind of the point. We’re looking at a never-before seen Sony Ericsson smartphone running Android — neither the Anzu / X12 nor the PlayStation Phone — and if we’re not terribly mistaken, that’s the company’s translucent Timescape UI on top. Oh, and it seems to be attached to Vodafone Germany, for whatever that’s worth. What’s more, the picture itself only tells half the story, as the other half is where it came from — a Picasa account filled to the brim with 8 megapixel test shots from a pair of camera phones. It’s hard to say whether either the Sony Ericsson “LT15i” or the “MT15i” are the device we’re actually looking at here, but the brethren have now fired off over 150 images testing out these camera modules. Rumor has it that both are running Gingerbread and that this one’s internal codename is “Hallon,” but honestly we’re more interested in that huge camera module on the front. HD video chat, perhaps? Find a full-frontal picture after the break, and plenty more at our source links.

[Thanks, Brenton]

Is there an android app that changes the appearance of an incoming call? I have the samsung intercept, and I don’t like the way an incoming call looks. Its too plain and when I assign an personal caller ID to a contact, the picture is too small.
By the way, I don’t get the little AndroidBot that usually pops up on android devices. Its the outline of a person and its gray.

Acer Liquid Metal handset confirmed for end of October in UK, has Froyo filling inside

Acer's UK press team has been atypically loquacious today in disclosing the expected launch window and Android version for its upcoming Liquid Metal handset. We've confirmed ourselves that the end of October is the period now circled on Her Majesty's calendar, though we suspect the rest of Europe, if not the entire world, will be getting to grips with the Froyo-packing smartphone at about that time as well.

Palm enabling webOS apps to interact with Universal Search, dock mode?

When our own esteemed Paul Miller cracked the mystery that allows the Motorola Droid to behave differently when docked than when in the hand, it took a little of the magic out the switch. However, that doesn't diminish from its utility, and it's a feature that could be coming to webOS . PreCentral.net received a screenshot from a developer highlighting two new options for webOS apps: Universal Search-enabled and Dock-enabled.

TI picks up first license for ARM’s Eagle CPU core, mass market devices still a couple of years off

The mythical next generation of ARM's Cortex-A series, the Eagle , has made a reappearance in the news this week, but much of the mystery remains. Texas Instruments has now revealed itself as the first licensee of the new core, while also waxing poetic about its deep involvement and collaboration with ARM on its design and particular specifications. No, nobody was kind enough to let us in on what those specs might yet be, but since -- technically speaking -- the Eagle CPU hasn't even been announced yet, that's probably fair enough

Samsung teases next Android announce, Galaxy S bound for T-Mobile next month?

It's no secret that Samsung wants to spread its high-end Galaxy S far and wide , but the exact details of its US attack have been a mystery thus far. TmoNews is reporting a "trusted source" as saying that the phone is pegged for a launch on T-Mobile on July 21, which matches up with some chatter we've been hearing as well. Though T-Mobile's been supporting Android as aggressively as any carrier in the world, the company lacks a hero device -- something akin to the Droid Incredible or EVO 4G -- so it would stand to reason that Samsung's best Android gear to date would be a good fit over there
