iOS 4.3 code reveals new iPhone and iPad models, rumor mill suggests a dislike of the home button

History lesson, folks. If you dig far enough into iOS’s code, you’ll eventually come across iPhone3,1, which is the AT&T iPhone 4, and the analogous iPhone3,2 (i.e. Verizon iPhone). It’s nothing we haven’t seen before, but then along comes iOS 4.3 with a handful of new mystery identifiers to spurn speculation — namely, two new-generation iPhones (4,1 and 4,2) and three iPads (2,1; 2,2; and 2,3). Speculate all you want, but there isn’t much else at all we can say definitively here, but if we had to take a guess, it’s the GSM and CDMA variants of the next-gen models (plus a WiFi-only iPad). It is interesting to note the lack of an “iPhone4,3″ given the yet-to-be-revealed iPhone3,3 is still there — will the last member ever see the light of day? Outside of iOS 4.3 but still very much related, BGR is claiming it’s heard from sources that the next iPhone / iPad models will eschew the physical home button altogether in lieu of the new multi-finger gestures and that employees at Cupertino are already testing such devices. That seems a little more out there to us; five-finger pinch to home feels extremely clunky. The real takeaway here? We can finally have an iPhone rumor that doesn’t involve wondering if it’ll head to a new US carrier.

Sprint TV brodcasting 30 college bowl games, including entire BCS

Quick: can you name 30 college football bowl games? Well, if you keep your face glued to your Sprint phone's screen for the next couple weeks, you'll be able to, thanks largely to the partnership Sprint inked with ESPN earlier this ear to bring ESPN Mobile TV to its devices. You'll be able to get to the games on your phone through either Sprint TV or the dedicated Sprint Football Live app, which are available on "most" models in Sprint's lineup and cost you nothing as long as you're signed up for unlimited data

Mobiado’s 712 Mokume Gane: because your Galaxy S lacks ancient Japanese metallurgical craftsmanship

Is there any way to sensibly justify Mobiado's colossally overpriced, underspec'd handsets? Not as far as we can tell -- but Mobiado seems to be eminently aware of (and okay with) that, diving yet deeper into the bottomless pit of conspicuous consumption this week with the announcement of the 712 Mokume Gane candybar. What's "Mokume Gane" mean, you ask

LG X170 netbook controls your phone, adds SmartPOP to the lexicon

We're guessing that this newfangled SmartPOP feature works a lot like Lenovo's Constant Connect (or perhaps LG's own Air Sync ?), but either way, the feature set is still fairly innovative. On the surface, LG is today introducing its X170 netbook -- a 10.1-incher with an Atom N455 (or N550), 1GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive and integrated Intel GMA 3150 graphics. But it's the accompanying SmartPOP feature that's really worth a second glance; purportedly, the system utilizes Bluetooth 3.0 in order to connect to your LG phone (supported models haven't been made public thus far) and do all sorts of things.

HTC 7 Pro going on preorder for Microsoft employees November 8th

Sprint will apparently be offering preorders of its HTC 7 Pro -- the only CDMA Windows Phone 7 device to be announced so far -- in just a few days' time on November 8th, but there's a fairly big catch: you've got to be a Microsoft employee to get in on the action. Redmond has been great about seeding WP7 models to its staff so far , so it's definitely possible that Sprint is working with Microsoft in some capacity to get 7 Pros to its folks a little early in an effort to smooth out last-minute bugs and get feedback...

Stuart Hughes strikes again with world’s most expensive, diamond covered iPhone 4

We've already established that if you're filthy rich, you probably don't want the same cell phone as common folk. No, if you're looking for something higher end, you'll probably end up talking to Stuart Hughes , who customizes electronics by plating them in gold and diamonds. We've already seen his work on a $20,000 iPhone 4 , but his latest achievement is downright ridiculous.
