Acer’s Liquid Metal spotted in the wild, chilling with two mystery friends
The last we heard about Acer's Liquid Metal smartphone, an Android 2.2 unit with a 3.6-inch display and a lovely aluminum exterior, it was getting ready for a UK launch at the end of October . There's just a little over a week left to meet that date, and all we have to show are some decidedly unofficial photos from Droid Sans . The first pic, above, shows off a very smudged up looking Liquid Metal (or what is said to be a Liquid Metal at least), but after that are photos of two mystery devices

Acer Liquid Metal handset confirmed for end of October in UK, has Froyo filling inside
Acer's UK press team has been atypically loquacious today in disclosing the expected launch window and Android version for its upcoming Liquid Metal handset. We've confirmed ourselves that the end of October is the period now circled on Her Majesty's calendar, though we suspect the rest of Europe, if not the entire world, will be getting to grips with the Froyo-packing smartphone at about that time as well.

Rogers getting Android 2.1-equipped Acer Liquid e this spring
Acer may make plenty of cellphones, but they've so far been a pretty rare sight on North American carriers. That's now set to change this Spring, however, when Rogers will reportedly be the first carrier in North America to offer Acer's new Liquid e phone -- and, incidentally, the first carrier in Canada to offer an Android 2.1 phone (not counting the upgradable Milestone, that is). In case you missed its debut at MWC, the Liquid e packs a 3.5-inch touchscreen, along with a slightly underclocked 768MHz Snapdragon processor, a 5-megapixel camera, 7.2Mbps 3G and Wi-Fi and, of course, a basic implementation of Android 2.1.

Acer Liquid e rolls with Android 2.1, underclocked 768MHz Snapdragon
We knew good and well Acer was prepared to ship a few more Android phones in the new decade, and it's sure starting off on the right foot here in Barcelona. Just a few months after the original Liquid began to ship, along comes a minor upgrade in the Liquid e.

BlackBerry Magnum prototype spotted, canned in favor of something better?
Okay, before we get too far here, keep your excitement in check: you'll apparently never be able to buy this. The good news, though, is that CrackBerry seems to have it on authority that the phone you're looking at here -- an early Magnum prototype -- has been scrapped in favor of something better, the "Dakota," possibly a stealthy tribute to diehard BlackBerry user Dakota Fanning .

Acer Liquid now available in black, only wants Queen’s money
While we have yet to see the Acer Liquid popping up for real on American soil, the lucky Brits have just been treated to a second color option -- black -- for this underclocked Snapdragon Android phone. Still no sign of the red option that Acer promised, though. Price remains steady at around

Snapdragon Powers the Android in the Acer Liquid A1
While much of the online mobile community has been talking about the upcoming Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 to be released Q1 of next year, we now have the world’s leading laptop maker Acer beating it to its markets with the release the world’s first Android 1. 6 smartphone powered by the Snapdragon – the Acer Liquid A1. Top Class Features The Liquid A1 can bask in the limelight before the XPERIA X10 or the HTX HD2 gets out. In the meantime, Sony Ericsson fans dismayed at not having their eagerly anticipated X10 in time for the holidays just might opt for the A1 instead. It’s a fine alternative alright. Only short by 0. 5 inches from what the X10 has, its 3. 5” wide-VGA capacitive touchscreen looms quite large on its equally elegant and slim body just 12. 5mm thick and weighing just 135g. The A1 shares many of the features we’ve come to expect from a high end versatile smartphone. This is a quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE on 2G and UMTS on 3G with HSPA data connectivity at 7. 2 Mbps for high speed internet surfing and downloading. Local data connectivity is served with its WiFi 802. 11b/g that has an added Acer Sync feature allowing you to synchronize your desktop with the handset over WiFi as well as over its Bluetooth 2. 1 with EDR. You can also sync between your address book, calendar and email with social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook. You can automatically upload your videos to YouTube and your photos to Picassa, making Google’s online media services a virtual remote backup for your media content. Just like most other upscale smartphones, you get excellent imaging feature with a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with geo-tagging thanks to its built-in GPS receiver. Apart from capable multimedia players, the A1 gets what Acer calls Spinlets apps that allow streaming audio and video content. It supports a choice of wireless stereo earphones with Bluetooth 2. 1 A2DP support or any high fidelity headphones using its 3. 5mm jack. Rumours that its Snapdragon will be underclocked to 768 MHz are finally confirmed. While this might easily be feared to cause underperformance when all the other Snapdragon handsets are clocked at 1GHz, there’s also speculation that Acer might have needed to detune the processor to give the handset a longer battery life with all those features tucked in. You get 5 hours of talk time and up to 400 hours on standby from its 1350 mAh lithium-ion battery. Not bad for a full-featured high end smartphone. But you can expect Acer to come out with the next handset running the newer Android 2. 0 OS. Availability Acer has managed to ship out the anticipated Liquid faster than most had expected, beating the world’s number one computer maker Dell’s Android MID to the finish line. It comes just as the more awaited XPERIA X10 running the same Snapdragon and Android 1. 6 OS won’t be released until the first quarter of 2010. Release date is November 28 and can already be pre-ordered in some key European cities like Spain and mobile sites like Clove in the UK have it ready for pre-order at a mere SIM-free price of €286 (€328. 90 with applicable taxes)- cheaper than initially thought. Sales package of the Acer Liquid A1 is said to come with a 2GB microSD card and you get a choice of body colors – red, black or white.
Acer Liquid: the First Snapdragon Android
Acer has finally released an Android smart phone running on the Snapdragon processor. Sadly, for those who have been waiting for a chance to see the Google OS run on a 1 GHz processor, that event has yet to pass. The Acer Liquid does indeed have a Snapdragon CPU, but the speed has been lowered to 768MHz. While this Qualcomm Snapdragon 8250 processor does a good job of running the Android (good luck getting it to slow down, many reviewers have tried but to no avail), it is more a matter of status than actual performance. It’s like driving on a busy street, no matter what car you have, the speed will not matter; but people will still prefer to be stuck in traffic in a Ferrari than a regular car. Spinlet Feature Acer is showcasing Spinlet in the Liquid. While the Spinlet has yet to see much use on desktop computers, it is one of the first full-multimedia widgets. While this app has yet to see much use on desktop computers, it will certainly do wonders for a mobile phone. This is the primary reason why Acer has chosen to have Spinlet on the Liquid, as its multimedia functionalities will certainly get the attention of many people –especially music fans. Phone Specifications The Acer Liquid sports a 3. 5 inch TFT capacitive touch screen with a display capability of 256 thousand colors. The resolution is a nice 480 x 800 pixels and it uses the Acer UI version 3. 0 in addition to the Android 1. 6. The screen also has an accelerometer sensor and a proximity sensor (so putting the screen against your face will not accidentally turn on the speaker phone). The 5 mega pixel camera provides the complete package. It has both auto focus and LED flash, making shots easy despite cluttered backgrounds, bad lighting or shaky hands. This quad band 2G and 3G HSDPA device supports GPS, Bluetooth, micro USB 2. 0 and micro SD cards of up to 32GB. Media storage will rely heavily on the SD card since the phone only has 256MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM for programs and other functions. Available on Clove and eXpansys For anyone interested in getting their hands on Acer’s top Android phone, the Liquid is already available online through internet retailers Clove and eXpansys. The two prices of the phone on the two companies are not too different with eXpansys offering the device at a slightly higher cost but with a little promotion for heavy shoppers with its special 20 Pound rebate coupon. Clove has the Liquid on retail, sim-free and unlocked with a nice 328. 90 price tag. eXpansys has more festive little promo; for 339. 99 Pounds you get the device and (as said above) a nice 20 Pound store voucher. eXpansys is offering a wide variety of accessories that would be worth using the voucher on. Both stores have the phone readily available for shipping; on the eXpansys website, the Liquid will ship upon receipt of payment and buyers can expect the phone to arrive within one to two working days. The average shipping cost within the UK is 6. 16 Pounds.
