We’re still playing the wait-and-see game when it comes to Skype on webOS and Windows Phone 7, but it looks as if to-be iPhone 4 owners won’t have to wait long before Skype-based video chatting becomes a reality… if Skype has its way, that is. According to someone on the inside quoted over at Pocket-Lint, Skype “would welcome the opportunity to work with Apple,” specifically in reference to integrating FaceTime capabilities into the firm’s own app. The mystery man also affirmed that Skype would “welcome the opportunity to work with Apple to bring mobile video calling not only to our many millions of Skype users on iPhone around the world, but also to the countless more making video calls on desktops, TVs and other connected devices.” ‘Course, there’s no specific time frame given, and only Jobs knows if the two companies have said a word to one another about making this happen. One thing’s for sure, though — enabling FaceTime usage within Skype would suddenly made the iPhone 4′s video calling abilities a whole lot more appealing. And by “appealing,” we mean “useful.”

Now that Froyo has gone official, HTC has hurried to reassure customers that most of its 2010 phone catalog will indeed be riding Android 2.2 before the year is through. Prodded on the subject by Pocket-lint, the company has replied that it’s starting out with the Desire and Incredible and working through other “hotly anticipated products,” which should sound a reassuring note for prospective Evo 4G owners. A full list will be provided as we get closer to release, but don’t wait with bated breath just yet, current indications are that the software upgrade will be coming in the second half of the year. By which time we’ll all probably have a taste for Gingerbread.

We already caught a fair amount of play time with Inbrics’ Android-based M1 at CES, but it looks as if the company is fixing to “officially” reveal it next week at Mobile World Congress. We’re still debating whether or not this thing is a bona fide smartphone or yet another MID that’ll have a tough time gaining acceptance in this cruel, cruel world, but either way, it’s apparently on track for release later this year. According to details scooped up by Pocket-lint, the company is hoping that the M1 will double as a media controller for AV junkies, and if all goes well, Europeans could get their hands on it “in 2010 or early 2011.” Just as long as it’s prior to 2012, we’re cool.
