LG Andro-1 is a GW620 with a Korean keyboard, funnier name
Before this fancy-sounding LU2300 that we've been hearing about rolls in, LG's got another Android-powered phone in mind for its domestic market -- but we would've never guessed it'd be a rehash of a tired model that's been sold internationally for several months now. Indeed, the KH5200 "Andro-1" is little more than a remix of the GW620 QWERTY slider -- a phone known as Eve to its Canadian buyers -- with a 3-inch HVGA display and 5 megapixel cam on board. It's said the phone could launch on KT as soon as next week for around 600,000 won ($531), but what might make it more palatable is chatter that they'll get the sucker down to a nice, round 0 won on plans of 45,000 won or higher.

Are there any Android phones in South Korea?
I move to South Korea in a couple of weeks, but could not find any information on Android phones, which currently are not there. I have heard of the Samsung I7500, but nothing else. Does anyone know if Google phones currently in South Korea or where everything comes out?
LG’s LU2300 set to challenge Samsung’s M100S for Korean Android dominance?
Eternal archrivals-to-the-death Samsung and LG have a tendency to match one another tit for tat in virtually every consumer electronic category, but for whatever reason, LG's been far less interested in going for broke with Android over the past year -- though a preoccupation with Windows Phone 7 Series is a solid guess at this point. Things may be changing, though, now that we've got news out of Telecoms Korea that they're prepping a more brutal assault than the weakling GW620 could ever provide in the form of a so-called LU2300 for the domestic market (we're assuming the actual thing will be a little more...

Samsung Corby Folder official, just for Korea so far
Samsung's Corby line has a reputation as a fun, simple, cheap, colorful range of handsets, and that trend looks to continue now that the Corby Folder has gone official -- in the domestic South Korean market, anyway. The first Corby with a hinge keeps it relatively simple (by Korean standards) with a 2.6-inch QVGA display, 3G data (HSPA or EV-DO Rev. A depending on the carrier), Bluetooth, microSD expansion, a 3 megapixel camera, and naturally, DMB mobile TV reception.

Samsung answers Motorola with Android-powered SHW-M100S for Korea
You might've thought that one of the local players would've been the first to announce Android gear for South Korea, but that honor ended up going to Motorola with its MOTOROI -- so who's next up to bat? That'd be Samsung, which has unveiled its biggest, baddest Android device to date in the SHW-M100S which features a 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED display (same as the Nexus One ), 5 megapixel cam, 802.11n (yes, n!) WiFi, Android 2.1, and -- of course -- a T-DMB mobile TV tuner

Motorola Motoroi coming to USA in March
Well, isn't this a novelty? The well practiced skill of lusting after Korean gear from afar won't be necessary with Motorola's latest Android 2.0 handset, as we're hearing the Motoroi is headed to US shelves this March. Moto Korea head honcho Rick Wolochatiuk was on hand at the Korean launch to confirm that the new handset "will be launched in other markets around the world," with the US specifically confirmed for a March release.

Motorola China has a bunch of smartphones on tap this year
China is one of Motorola's last safe havens for Windows Mobile-powered devices , but even the Far East is falling to the inevitable onslaught of little green robots -- one need look no further than the XT701, MT710, and XT800 for evidence of that. That leads us to believe that the company's 2010 haul of smartphones for China will be primarily Android-based -- particularly in light of China Mobile's commitment to it through Open Mobile System -- expanding on comments in Korea this week by Moto's GM of the mobile devices business that there will "probably another four or five [smartphones] later" in the region following the recent announcements of the MT710 and XT800 and the upcoming launch of the XT701. Considering that China continues to be a stronghold for Moto, we're not surprised to see so much of the company's product R&D dollars go that way -- as long as the rest of the world ends up getting some trickle-down benefit, of course.
