iGrill meat thermometer for iPhone is the expensive, unholy marriage of the meat thermometer and iPhone
OK, we didn't see this one coming: iGrill is a Bluetooth-enabled meat thermometer. That's right, this bad boy not only displays the temp of whatever you sink the probe into, it also takes that info and transmits it to your iOS device for remote monitoring. Hell, the app itself even features a kitchen timer, alerts for whatever temp you set it to, and more

Apple mysteriously kills jailbreak detection API while hacker boosts iOS security, irony restored
It's no secret that Apple's been keen to monitor the lot of naughty jailbreakers, but it turns out the company has recently shelved iOS 4.0's jailbreak detection API with no explanation given. While this has little effect on the average user, Network World explains that this is bad news for enterprise IT and MDM (mobile device management) vendors, who will now have one fewer channel for checking whether a user's iOS device has been jailbroken and thus become vulnerable to attacks.

Looxcie outs iOS-compatible lifecasting camera, early adopters get the boot
Thinking of grabbing Looxcie's remarkable Bluetooth-based Borg-cam as a $200 stocking stuffer this year? Hold on a twirl, and make sure you're paying for the one that actually plays nice with your mark's favorite smartphone. You see, the company had to make a hardware modification this week to the original Looxcie to make it compatible with iOS devices, and while that's complete now, you'll want to buy the new Looxcie LX1 if your giftee owns an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

Skyfire for iOS gets App Store approval, available soon
Getting something like a browser through Apple's App Store approval process can be a nail-biting experience both for the developer and for would-be users -- but now that Opera Mini set the precedent , there's little justification for denying them (assuming there's no foolishness going on under the hood). This time around it's Skyfire , submitted in early September and finally cleared by Cupertino's powers that be this week which means that it should pop up in the App Store in short order. As in the Android build, Skyfire's iOS browser does some back-end magic to convert any Flash videos that it finds embedded in web pages so that they can be viewed, a feature that could make this a pretty popular download.
