ARM intros next-gen Mali-T604 embedded GPU, Samsung first to get it
Promising "visually rich user experiences not previously seen in consumer electronics devices," ARM has introduced its latest embedded GPU architecture, Mali-T604, at its Technology Conference 2010 in California today. Though we're unlikely to see it in devices any time soon, the introduction means that the new design is available to ARM licensees -- and notably, the company points out that partner Samsung will be the first to get hooked up. Considering Sammy competes in the high-end embedded system-on-chip space already with its ARM-based Hummingbird line of cores, adding in the Mali-T604 is probably the next logical step for them.

Virgin’s payLo service breaks the $20 mold, adds third plan for $30
Virgin Mobile has been attacking the ultra-low end segments of the market with its two-pack of payLo prepaid plans this year, both of which retail for $20. Well, if you're looking for a slightly fancier package, Virgin is answering the call today with the introduction of a third payLo plan at the $30 mark, offering 1,500 voice minutes, 500 messages, and 10MB of data per month. That marks the first time that a payLo plan has included either data or text buckets -- and considering how important both of those are these days, we imagine the new plan will find a taker or two.

Nokia’s fall accessories: Bluetooth headsets for every budget… and some colorful spheres
Though they were obviously overshadowed by the handset announcements , Nokia World also saw the introduction of a number of new Bluetooth headsets and miscellaneous accessories like the DT-600 this year. We took a look at the new headset line, and we've got to give Nokia some credit here -- they're serving pretty much every possible segment of the Bluetooth headset-wearing public, from the budget shopper to the occasional user to the hardcore, I-feel-naked-if-I-don't-have-it-on types. The ultra-low end BH-108 is constructed almost entirely of matte plastic and doesn't offer any DSP noise reduction or other tricks, but at €20 ($26), it's one of the cheapest headsets from a top-tier manufacturer you can buy

Exclusive: HTC F8181 is AT&T’s Brew MP-equipped dumbphone
We'll admit, we'd kinda figured that HTC's venture into the seedy underworld of dumbphones with the introduction of the Smart earlier this year was a non-starter and that it'd quietly fade into the night before 2010 was out, but apparently not -- at least, not if you ask AT&T. We've been slid a couple shots of a new handset from HTC for Ma Bell going by the model number F8181 (it'll have a fancy name like "Bacon," "Double Rainbow," or "Nilay Patel" by the time it launches, obviously) that runs the Brew MP platform Qualcomm has been pushing this year for the sub-smartphone category; of course, it seems to us that smartphone hardware is getting cheap enough to push through nearly every price segment, but if we can expect this to be free on contract, we suppose there might be a market here. No word on dollars or dates just yet, but naturally, we'll keep you in the loop

AT&T: 40 percent of iPhones are enterprise, Android ‘built with a very specific focus to consumers’
It isn't just Verizon's Lowell McAdam with fascinating commentary at this Barclays Capital tech conference going down in New York this week. Ron Spears, who leads up AT&T's Business Solutions division, had some notable things to say about enterprise mobility -- specifically, the iPhone's role in taking businesses to the road, a magic trick typically associated almost exclusively with BlackBerry over the past ten years

Truphone’s Local Anywhere SIM gives you a local number anywhere, as long as ‘anywhere’ is the US or UK
Truphone -- better known for its VoIP services than anything else -- is getting into the rough-and-tumble world of international roaming with the introduction of its Local Anywhere SIM. At a glance, you might think that it works like countless other global prepaid SIMs that are ready to get shoved into the unlocked quadband phone of your choice, but here's Truphone's secret: on its higher-end packages, you can add local numbers for countries you visit frequently. To borrow the company's example, this means local pizza delivery dudes can buzz you without placing a multi-dollar call
