AT & T WiFi launched the initiative to new regions of Times Square, Rockefeller Center and St. Patrick’s Cathedral

AT & T has promised to launch some new WiFi locations in the coming months, starting from new areas of access to New York’s Times Square, Rockefeller Center and St. Patrick’s Cathedral – all the big tourist traps. Times Square AT & T offering free WiFi (lauched in May), but it makes the region a bigger part of the new initiative. The company also announced that it intends to launch WiFi locations in San Francisco, and from the Embarcadero Center, sometime later this year. Times Square, decorated with WiFi, and two new regions to launch a “coming days”, which we know is not very special, but hey, this is the best we can do. Full press release after the break.

Anyone know of some programs that I would make it easier to create apps? that I registered with Google App Inventor and look forward to the invitation. Samsung Epic 4G, Galaxy Tab to get Sprint ID service

The forgettable Samsung Transform didn't get Sprint ID off to a strong start, but we wouldn't exactly call the initiative dead in the water: in fact, the carrier has announced that the service will be coming both to the Galaxy Tab and the Epic 4G "soon." We know from our time with the Transform that ID still needs some spit and polish to be useful, but in theory, the concept of being able to effortlessly switch between very comprehensive, deep-reaching themes on an Android device is a compelling one -- and it stands to reason that it'll get smoother after a revision or two. Presumably, this would be made available to existing Epic owners as an over-the-air firmware update, though Sprint hasn't announced whether that'll happen. RIM files ‘SurfBook’ trademark in Canada, cyberspace awaits

It's pretty common for companies in the heat of product development to file for trademarks, domain names, and patents first and ask questions later, so we can understand (we guess) that RIM took the initiative to put the milquetoast "BlackPad" on lock earlier this year for the tablet it's almost certainly working on -- the logic, of course, is that if you fire enough shots in the dark, at least one of your filings isn't going to suck. To that end, it looks like the boys and girls in Waterloo filed for "SurfBook" in early August, though it's only showing up in Canada's filing system at this point -- there's no matching documentation in the USPTO just yet

Sprint clears 35MHz of spectrum for future use, wonders if it’s alone in the world

You know that " National Broadband Plan " that the world keeps yapping about? Sprint's down with it, and has been since before it ever existed, apparently. Based on a glowing press release outed this week by the carrier, it has just wrapped up a five year initiative to free 35MHz of highly valuable spectrum needed for future broadband expansion
