I am seeking an android phone for verizon, but am aware that new software will be coming out soon which may require new hardware… Is it worth waiting a few months for new models to come out or are there any models worth buying right now?
I wanted to start developing one or two android applications, themes or software.
I was just wondering if theres anything specific i need to read,or new software i need to learn.
Obviously im looking to make something really simple.
Thanks

MetroPCS follows Cricket’s lead, launches Huawei’s Ascend budget Android phone
Huawei's really starting to make a splash in the American smartphone market, breaking into the Big Four with the launch of the T-Mobile Comet not long ago -- but it's the budget regionals where these guys might have a chance to dominate. MetroPCS has taken a cue from archrival Cricket in launching Huawei's Ascend today, offering a 3.5-inch HVGA display, 3.2 megapixel camera, and microSD memory expansion to 16GB atop Android 2.1 . The $179 they're asking seems a bit steep for the specs until you remember that MetroPCS offers its hardware contract-free -- and it'll save you a dime or two over the carrier's name-brand Android offering, the Optimus M from LG

T-Mobile Comet review
In 2010, does a phone need to have a 4.3-inch display, a gigahertz (or greater) processor, and a one-bazillion megapixel camera with xenon flash and continuous autofocus to be relevant? How about important? Or even -- dare we say it -- awesome

Droid 2 Global appears in Costco database for $199, T-Mobile Comet at $149
What happens when you punch the phrase "Droid" into a Costco sales terminal? If Boy Genius Report 's sources are right, you see the Motorola Droid 2 Global ring up (in black and white!) for $199.99.

Huawei Ascend is the $150 Android smartphone you might actually want to own
When the Huawei Ascend launches on prepaid carrier Cricket Wireless later this month, it will cost $150. That's not after a rebate or with a two-year agreement, mind you -- for three portraits of Ulysses S. Grant, you actually own the phone

AT&T’s new USB modems include HSPA+, LTE-upgradeable, and prepaid options
It'll be a little while before AT&T's LTE rollout is in full swing -- but if you're the kind of individual that enjoys some margin of future-proofing, you'll want to take a close look at the just-announced USBConnect Adrenaline modem for AT&T, an LG-sourced unit that becomes the carrier's very first device to tout LTE upgradeability in 2011. In the meantime, you get HSPA, a microSD slot with support for up to 32GB, and GPS; it runs $49.99 on contract. Next up, Sierra Wireless' USBConnect Shockwave is AT&T's first HSPA+ modem, meaning it'll work nicely on AT&T's upcoming HSPA+ upgrade -- an upgrade that'll have a more immediate impact in some areas than LTE will; this one goes for a nice, fat zilch on contract

Shocker: Huawei Ideos may be headed to T-Mobile
Huawei wants to bring Android to the masses , and it sounds like one cellular carrier may already be on board -- the Wall Street Journal reports that T-Mobile is presently in talks to offfer the 2.8-inch, Android 2.2 smartphone and could begin selling it by Yuletide. Of course, considering China-based Huawei expects the reasonably-attractive device could cost as little as $100 off-contract , it's not terribly surprising that any carrier you'd care to name would be champing at the bit to grab one.

Vodafone R201 mobile WiFi hotspot review
Mobile broadband has come a long way since the early (and expensive) attempts at integrating 3G modules into laptops; today, cubicle dwellers are liberated by cheaper mobile data, along with the abundance of 3G dongles and the emerging mobile WiFi (ergo " MiFi ") hotspot devices. It's no secret that Huawei's been flirting with both Three and Vodafone for some time, but it was only recently that the manufacturer also made a MiFi -- the R201 -- for Vodafone (the carrier's lesser-known MiFI 2352 in Spain is from Novatel ).

T-Mobile UK quietly retracts Pulse’s buggy 2.1 update, Huawei says it was non-final anyway
Remember T-Mobile's money-saving, finger-friendly Pulse ? You know, the Huawei Android handset that received a 2.1 update in Hungary back in May? Earlier this month (on the 6th, to be precise), said phone's British counterpart also received its share of cream-filled pastry , but perhaps one with cream gone sour.

US Senators uneasy over possible Huawei equipment deal for Sprint
Chinese telecom giant Huawei already has a pretty big (and growing) presence in North America, having previously signed deals with regional carriers like Leap (better known by its Cricket brand) and MetroPCS -- but apparently, a bid to supply one of the Big Four with equipment is hitting a little too close to home for some legislators. A group of eight US Senators has filed a letter with the Treasury Department expressing concern over Huawei's alleged ties with everything from Saddam Hussein's Iraq to present-day Iran to China's own People's Liberation Army, saying that such a company "should not be able to do business" in the country. Of course, similar concerns ended up dooming Huawei's attempted buyout of 3Com not long ago -- and considering the political climate in US-China relations, this is the kind of lukewarm response Huawei and other major Chinese firms might need to keep dealing with as they try to grow their Western presence.
