Sharp Mobiflip channels Sidekick LX’s vibes for Mobilicity

Thought the launch of the Kin ONEm and TWOm was strange? Here's another oddity with a Microsoft tie-in: Canadian startup Mobilicity has just announced the "Mobiflip," a phone that the carrier's own press release calls out as being "similar to the Sidekick LX ." It's unclear whether what's left of Danger will be supporting the device -- the Sidekick line basically pioneered mobile cloud computing, after all -- but what we see of the interface certainly rings true to the Sidekicks of days gone by

Google’s spicy new Android Market to display high-res images, videos, be more tablet-friendly?

We're pretty sure that Gingerbread is to be Android 2.3 , but we're still missing the official Google confirmation, and beyond that still waiting to hear exactly what the heck this point release will entail. It's certainly looking like there's a new Android Market in the works, though, with Google adding new fields to the submission that accept higher resolution icons, a high-res "feature graphic" measuring 1024 x 500, and an optional link to a YouTube-hosted promotional video. Google has also confirmed that up to eight screenshots will be able to be submitted in the near future, with a maximum resolution of 480 x 800

Pantech Crux is Verizon’s ‘simple, sleek, and affordable’ full touchscreen phone

The Octane isn't Verizon's only introduction today -- and let's be honest, no hardware intro would be complete without a full touchscreen model these days, now, would it? Pantech is rolling in with the Crux, featuring a 3-inch touchscreen accompanied by a microSD slot (32GB max and 1GB included in the box), a 3 megapixel camera, and not a whole heck of a lot else -- you're certainly not going to find Android here.

Droid Pro appears at Verizon for $299?

If you're looking to get some BlackBerry up in your Droid , brace yourself for a premium price. Motorola's Droid Pro worldphone was just spotted at a Verizon test website for $299 on-contract and as much as $700 unsubsidized. Should the 1GHz unit arrive as shown without a chunky rebate of some sort, it would be the most expensive Android handset on offer -- a solid $50 more than Samsung's $250 Epic 4G -- a heck of a thing for an 320 x 480 resolution phone without a huge Super AMOLED screen

Boost Mobile adds $2-a-day unlimited everything option

For voice and data alike, "unlimited" is a major buzzword among value carriers like Cricket , Virgin Mobile , and Boost Mobile lately -- and when they can offer it for $10 or $20 less than the big guys, why shouldn't it be? Boost is slicing the unlimited option in a new way this week with the announcement that it's now offering unlimited nationwide voice, messaging, web, IM, email, and information for $2 a day, which if our rough math is correct, works out to $60 a month. That's $10 a more than you pay if you just bite the bullet and prepay on a monthly basis, but obviously it's a heck of a lot more flexible, too -- and with these prepaid guys, flexibility is king

Droid Pro is the global Droid 2: the evidence grows

We'd reported before our belief that the rumored Droid Pro is nothing more than the dual-mode version of the Droid 2 , but the question remained: knowing that the Droid 2 has a model code of A955, what the heck is the difference between the model codes A956 and A957 that have been showing up in Verizon's systems? Looks like we might have some clarification on that question this afternoon thanks to a new shot clearly calling out the A957 as the R2-D2 version of the Droid 2 that's launching late next month. What does that mean

webOS 2.0 coming ‘later this year,’ says HP’s Rubinstein

HP's Jon Rubinstein -- formerly of Palm CEO fame, of course -- just mentioned in an interview with Fortune that webOS 2.0 is on track for "later this year." Considering that 2010 is more than half over, that doesn't leave a whole heck of a lot of time -- but with a mix of presumed kick-ass HP hardware in the pipeline running webOS, we imagine this should all dovetail nicely. On a related note, Rubinstein again drove home the point that they're developing new hardware "aggressively," so let's hope we finally see a Pre 2, a Palmpad , or heck, a frickin' LifeDrive 2 in the next few months

Motorola’s rugged i1 coming to Sprint: July 25 for $150 on contract

A solid four months after first seeing thing plastered across half of Las Vegas, Motorola's i1 finally has a date with Sprint. The planet's first Android-equipped smartphone with Nextel Direct Connect will go nationwide on July 25th (via telesales and websites; all other Sprint channels will see it on August 8th), bringing military spec ruggedness, push-to-talk capabilities and a certain ability to withstand all sorts of death grips. Unfortunately, Android 1.5 is a bit of a dinosaur at this point, but it's still a heck of a lot better than that G'zOne Rock you're currently toting.

Sony Ericsson’s Cedar, Yendo are official: candybar and an Android-free X10 mini clone

If the phone on the left looks familiar, it should -- it looks a heck of a lot like the Android-powered X10 mini , sharing the 2.6-inch touchscreen and some of its UI cues -- but alas, this bad boy isn't running Android.

Motorola Milestone gets close to custom ROMs — even without an unlocked bootloader

Motorola Milestone owners still haven't managed to get the phone's bootloader unlocked, making custom Android ROMs ( Froyo , for example) a whole heck of a lot more difficult -- but not impossible.
