FCC looking to accept 911 texting, MMS, and even streaming video

Texting has taken over mobile networks, and now it's destined to overwhelm our emergency responders as well. According to Wired Epicenter , the FCC is looking to follow in the footsteps of those trailblazing Iowans and expand its 911 services to allow emergencies to be reported via text message, and while at first glance that may sound silly, we can think of some times when it could make a lot of sense

Is this the Motorola Olympus Tegra 2 smartphone?

A tipster is shopping this device around the tech blog circuit this morning claiming it's the first of two "iPhone killer" Olympus Tegra 2 smartphones from Motorola. At first glance, it looks like a Motorola Defy .

LG enV Pro pictured, canceled for failure to ‘impress’ testers?

Yeah, kind of a good news / bad news type of situation here: the user's manual for the rumored Android-based LG enV Pro for Verizon has leaked, showing off the latest incarnation of the long-running QWERTY clamshell line in all its dual-screen glory. That's the good news.

Dell Venue hits the FCC: is this the Thunder’s new name?

Yes, that's right, just "Venue," not Venue Pro -- and from a glance, it looks to us like this might be the new name for the Thunder Android phone we played with a little while ago judging by this FCC filing that just crossed the wires. As far as we can tell, this thing is basically a carbon copy of the Venue Pro, except it's running Android instead of Windows Phone 7 and drops the sliding portrait keyboard in favor of a full-touch setup

BlackBerry PlayBook demoed courtesy of RIM’s Mike Lazaridis and Adobe’s Kevin Lynch

RIM has now uploaded the full video of its PlayBook's brief stint in the limelight during Adobe MAX yesterday, where Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch and none other than Mr. BlackBerry himself, RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis, take the "professional tablet" through its very first public test drive on the keynote stage. The duo run through an MRI scan viewing app -- presumably in an attempt to woo the lucrative medical market -- along with the PlayBook's Air-based video player and browser-embedded Flash player, both of which seem to work pretty well.

Mobilicity takes Rogers to task over Chatr, alleges it’s using a ‘flanker brand’

At a glance, it seems like upstart Canadian value carrier Mobilicity has a fairly cut-and-dried case against Rogers here, alleging in a complaint to the government's Competition Bureau that the big guy is in direct violation of Section 78 of the country's Competition Act that prevents established companies from creating so-called "flanker brands" offering lower prices to kill off new players. In other words, it's saying Rogers' new Chatr sub-brand only exists to make life difficult for the likes of Mobilcity, WIND Mobile , and Public Mobile -- and considering the uncanny timing of Chatr's creation, Rogers is probably going to have a tough time explaining that one away

Zelfy Peel might be the iPhone remote you’ve been looking for

Our eyes were drawn to an FCC filing this morning from a California start-up by the name of Zelfy; a quick glance at Zelfy's site reveals that they're in "stealth mode," but the picture of a woman using an iPhone to control her TV should give you an idea of what these guys are up to.

Nexus One now a step closer to FM radio support, thanks to modified kernel

As you may or may not be already aware, the Nexus One and HTC Desire have the same Broadcom chip. Seems trivial at cursory glance until you realize the Desire has a FM radio app, which should ergo be just as feasible on the Google-branded device. Cut to xda-developers' intersectRaven, who's released a custom N1 kernel that theoretically brings life to the FM receptor
