How would you change Sprint’s Epic 4G?
It's the only Galaxy S variant to offer 4G connectivity, but it's also the only one that requires a $10/month data surcharge to use. That boost in cost will undoubtedly bring higher expectations, and we're eager to hear from early adopters on how their Epic 4G experience has been.

Samsung Epic 4G, Galaxy Tab to get Sprint ID service
The forgettable Samsung Transform didn't get Sprint ID off to a strong start, but we wouldn't exactly call the initiative dead in the water: in fact, the carrier has announced that the service will be coming both to the Galaxy Tab and the Epic 4G "soon." We know from our time with the Transform that ID still needs some spit and polish to be useful, but in theory, the concept of being able to effortlessly switch between very comprehensive, deep-reaching themes on an Android device is a compelling one -- and it stands to reason that it'll get smoother after a revision or two. Presumably, this would be made available to existing Epic owners as an over-the-air firmware update, though Sprint hasn't announced whether that'll happen. Samsung Epic 4G, Galaxy Tab to get Sprint ID service originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Sun, 31 Oct 2010 11:59:00 EST

Epic 4G pre-orders starting today?
We've gotten several tips this week suggesting that pre-orders for Sprint's mighty Samsung Epic 4G should be starting today, though at the time of this writing, the page where reservations are apparently supposed to take place is just offering to take down contact information to find out more about the device. We're also hearing that reservations will be taken through the 17th -- though we wouldn't necessarily say that means the phone's launching on the 17th or 18th -- and only one reservation will be allowed per customer, which won't require any cash or credit card hold upfront. Oh, and if you reserve, be quick about picking it up, because you'll only have until noon the day after launch to pick it up

Root already working on Samsung Captivate, other US Galaxy S models
Normally, you've got to wait... you know, at least a few hours after a new Android phone's released for a root technique to pop up -- but thanks to the Captivate's lineage, hackers have already been able to get the ball rolling. Indeed, it turns out that the root method already employed on the European version of the Galaxy S works just fine on the Captivate and Vibrant , and presumably, it'll work just the same on Fascinate and Epic 4G with a minimum of modification.

Sprint lines up Epic 4G against the competition, likes its chances
In case you needed any more evidence that Samsung's Epic 4G for Sprint is probably going to be awesome, you might take a gander at the competitive analysis they've prepared against the iPhone 4 , Droid Incredible , and Droid X as an ego-boosting checklist for reps prepping to sell the phone in the coming weeks. The DLNA support trumpeted, but HDMI's notably missing -- something its EVO 4G sibling has -- and it'll be up to customers to decide whether 4-inch Super AMOLED is better than 4.3-inch LCD. Unsurprisingly, the Epic will "feature" the same $10 data surcharge that the EVO has, something that we're guessing is going to end up being phased in over Sprint's entire smartphone lineup over time -- you know, kind of like those delivery service "fuel surcharges" that end up becoming permanent after a while.
