Android 2.2 Froyo officially announced

No huge surprises here, but Google just announced Android 2.2 "Froyo" at I/O, and the big addition is a just-in-time compiler, which brings a 2-5x speed boost to the system. There are also 20 new enterprise features, including better Exchange integration and device administration APIs, as well as a new device backup app that'll let you transfer personal data to a new device. Android 2.2 also features a new cloud-to-device messaging API that Google called "much more than a push notification service designed to make up for a lack of basic features like multitasking," and of course, WiFi tethering -- which was used to get a WiFi iPad online during the demo to great cheers.

RIM’s BlackBerry Mobile Voice System 5 lets you stay tied to your desk without being tied to your desk

Though the Bold 9650 and Pearl 3G are clearly the big announcements out of Orlando at RIM's WES conference this morning, there was a third bit of news in the mix, too -- with a decidedly heavier enterprise slant, that is. BlackBerry Mobile Voice System 5 extends the existing product with SIP support, allowing calls to transition seamlessly between cellular and WiFi networks. What's more, it'll work on pretty much any open WiFi hotspot (subject to enterprise policy, we're assuming), so this is just about the best way in the business to keep you desk phone with you at all times.

Telecom Egypt loses revenue, government helps by banning international VoIP

Would Android Tablets bombard the enterprise space?

Android is an open source operating system for mobile phones that operate on the Linux kernel. Other platform-based smartphone is available on the market, as HTC G1, HTC Eris Droid, Droid Motorola, Samsung Galaxy GW620 Eve, etc. However, the Android platform is still a long way to cover the segment compressed. Motorola targets first quarter of 2011 for split into two

Ending a healthy spat of rumor and speculation , Motorola has confirmed today that it'll be splitting into two separate entities as of the first quarter of next year. The first of the two will form from the current Mobile Devices and Home businesses -- led by Sanjay Jha effective immediately -- with control of the phone business, set-top boxes, and "end-to-end video, voice and data solutions," while the other half will congeal out of the Enterprise Mobility and Networks divisions that are responsible for wireless infrastructure, two-way radios, public safety systems, and the like, and that will be led by Greg Brown (in other words, both businesses will retain their current leaders). The deal apparently has the support of Moto's board (a good thing to have when you're a publicly-traded company), and logically, both spin-offs will be publicly-traded as well.
