If you’re looking for something a little smarter than Tonino Lamborghini’s Spyder series of luxury phones (and we mean “smarter” in the operating system sense, not the wisdom of purchasing such a device), look no further than the Evoluzione. This puppy runs Android 2.1 (Froyo might be available in the future), but falls well short of its automotive namesake by sticking with a middling HVGA display of 3.2 inches and a 600MHz processor. Can you picture a Murcielago with a V-6? We can’t. Good news is that it costs a whole hell of a lot less, too: S$788, which works out to about $600.

You remember iGloLEDset, right? How could you forget? The multicolored, WiFi-enabled strip of LEDs is basically a party waiting to happen — assuming you’re ready and willing to pony up the $300 entry fee — but until now, they’ve only been controllable with iOS devices. Well, good news, Android users: your ticket to ride the light wave just arrived, and iGloLEDset’s makers have celebrated with a little demo video you can see after the break. The new app’s available now.

Certainly seems like Canadian carriers are a good deal more friendly toward launching European handsets than American carriers are, doesn’t it? Motorola’s Milestone and HTC’s Desire Z are both prime examples — and now it looks like another hot HTC, the Desire HD, is on its way. MobileSyrup appears to have scored a shot of a Desire HD running Telus firmware, claiming that it’s currently tracking for release in either January or February — presumably with most or all of the specs that grace its European cousin: 4.3-inch WVGA display, HTCSense.com integration, a 1GHz second-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon core, and 8 megapixel camera, just to name a few luscious spec line items. Unfortunately, the skeptic in us doesn’t think January / February gives either HTC or Telus enough time to turn out a skinner Gingerbread firmware here — but considering what a minor release Gingerbread really is, we’re sure plenty of buyers will be able to overlook the indiscretion (particularly with a little help from xda-developers, if you catch our drift).

In a world where $70-plus Bluetooth headsets are common and $100-plus headsets aren’t unheard of, it’s refreshing to see a cheap model come out from a top-tier manufacturer, isn’t it? Nokia showed its €20 BH-106 a couple months ago, and now we’ve got the $39.99 EASYGO from Jabra, a peripheral the company says is perfect for “Bluetooth beginners.” Presumably, Jabra would love to see a customer graduate from this to something like a Stone2 when the time’s right, but that doesn’t mean the EASYGO is a slouch: it’s got verbal guidance of battery level and pairing status, a feature that you don’t always see in this segment of the market. If you’re looking for a cheap stocking stuffer and you’re trying to get someone to take their hands off their phone while they’re driving, you’re in luck — it’s available now.

Okay, now that we've gotten past that, Sprint just cut loose a new EVO 4G update that bundles updated versions of Telenav, visual voicemail, Sprint Zone, and Sprint TV, along with a sprinkling of crapware in the form of a new game trial. You've also got Blockbuster and Kindle apps on board, a new Scan Now widget that seems to assist with locating a 4G signal, and -- this is pretty awesome -- the addition of Swype , which means you'll no longer need to install the off-ROM Swype beta.
On top of the 1,800 job cuts announced back in October, Nokia has announced this week that will be cutting another 800 positions right in Finland, the company's home turf. The good news is that the announcement was made only after negotiations with the affected employees were wrapped up, and they'll be getting anywhere between 5 and 15 months of severance pay -- and at least some of the staffers will be offered different positions elsewhere in the company. Nokia is in the midst of a fairly significant restructuring from top to bottom as it tries to claw its way back into the hearts and minds of consumers: it's got a new CEO , a new operating system , a new relationship with the Symbian Foundation , and some freshly trimmed fat, so let's hope Espoo's got a killer 2011 in the cards.

Previously a US English exclusive, Google has just turned loose a new version of its shockingly-good mobile Gmail site that can be used in some 44 additional languages, including Arabic, Vietnamese, and just about everything in between (though no Esperanto or Klingon yet, we're afraid). Perhaps even better, though, the latest version adds true offline support, label management, smart links for content that can be viewed or used in other Google products, and more -- oh, and if your phone's default language is set to one of the 45 that are supported, the interface will automatically use it. We might recommend you just check it out yourself -- it's available on iOS and Android -- but if you're into cute cartoon representations of email UIs, you could check out Goog's official video after the break
