Sony Ericsson’s Anzu / X12 to be Xperia Gingerbread flagship? (Update: more pics!)

We're not sure what Sony Ericsson's gotten to lately with its mythological codenames, but if Xperia X10 Blog's source is to be trusted, what we're looking at here is supposedly an upcoming handset codenamed "Anzu" (a lesser god of Akkadian mythology), or simply the X12 according to the often reliable Eldar Murtazin . Details are thin right now, but the leakster claims that said device is "very, very slim" yet packing a 4.3-inch display and HDMI output -- sounds very much like the Droid X , if you ask us. Although this particular photo shows an Android 2.1 build on the phone, rumor has it that it'll be shipped with Gingerbread (which is now pretty much officially 2.3) in Q1 next year.

Android 3.0 Gingerbread getting revamped UI, Froyo living on for lower-end phones?

Last we'd heard, the next major release of Android -- codename Gingerbread -- was scheduled for a fourth-quarter launch , but the always-entertaining Eldar Murtazin has apparently just spilled a few details on what he knows of the release on a Russian podcast.

Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X10 exhaustedly previewed, screenshotted to death

While we patiently wait for the X10 to make its way into retail channels (or, you know, give up and buy something else instead), mobile-review's Eldar Murtazin has come through once again with one of his world-famous eleventy billion page previews rife with thousands of screenshots, which should take you long enough to skim through so that the phone's available by the time you're done. Thing is, you may not want it anymore: Eldar's concerned by the phone's cheap plastic shell, which is particularly alarming in light of the direction competitors are going , and the screen could apparently be better. Add in the fact that it'll be launching with Android 1.6 and there's no question Sony Ericsson's first Android effort is going to face an uphill battle -- let's just hope they learn from the complaints and get an updated Android build rolled out on the double

Samsung Diva or Soviet-era Christmas ornament: you decide

Extraordinarily well-connected mobile blogger Eldar Murtazin -- who just happens to be Russian -- has made the fascinating observation that the Samsung Diva S5150 looks strikingly similar to the kind of Christmas decoration that you'd find in a Soviet home circa, oh, 1986.

Nokia N97 Mini previewed: not so mini, not so great

Filed under: Handsets , Nokia As sure as the sun, Mobile-review's Eldar Murtazin managed to nab a very early look at the still yet-to-be-announced Nokia N97 Mini , and as if we needed another reminder , the FCC filing wasn't kidding with that 1:1 scale. Turns out it only takes "around a centimeter" difference to earn the "mini" nomenclature in Finland, and in addition to that peculiarity, the company's apparently managed to make the keyboard actually worse than its predecessor -- no small feat, if you ask us.
