New HTC device starts leaking piecemeal — is it the Mecha / Incredible HD?

So we've got a crazy theory here: Slashgear just got a couple closeup shots of some heretofore-unknown HTC . So did we -- one in common with Slashgear , one different. Could it be that Taiwan's finest are "leaking" us these shots in an effort to drum up interest going into CES in a couple weeks

Verizon teases Android LTE hardware for January 6th at CES

Notice how we said "hardware," not "phones?" In light of that wild Motorola teaser we just saw and the fact that we know Verizon and Moto are working pretty closely on Android tablets , it's entirely possible that phones won't be the only items on Verizon's docket when it starts pulling the covers off its first consumer-oriented LTE gear at CES in a couple weeks. The fact that there'll be new LTE hardware intros from Verizon at CES is nothing new -- they've been saying as much for a while now -- but the specific mention of Android is a comforting confirmation that we'll probably see the HTC Mecha , that unnamed LG , and perhaps a tablet or two on hand as opposed to MetroPCS' unusual strategy of taking the dumbphone route .

Samsung comes clean with Galaxy S Froyo upgrade dates: all carriers in November

The Android 2.2 upgrade situation on the Galaxy S has been a veritable rollercoaster of emotions for owners recently, owing in no small part to the seemingly final firmwares that have been briefly posted and pulled from the company's servers in parts of the world over the past couple weeks.

Amazon App Store for Android confirmed by WSJ

Amazon's always worked hard to make sure it's in the digital goods business as well as its obviously successful physical one, but this might be one of its boldest steps yet: another app store for Android.

T-Mobile G2 pre-orders starting tomorrow for current customers, it seems

T-Mobile has had a longstanding tradition of giving current customers first dibs on pre-orders for hot products, and it looks like the upcoming G2 will be no exception. TmoNews has a rather telling screen shot suggesting that T-Mobile subscribers will be able to sign up for the Android-powered QWERTY slider starting tomorrow through October 4, with retail availability following a couple days later on the 6th; we've already had that date on lock through Best Buy Mobile, so it comes as no surprise

HTC PD53100 gets FCC approval: is this the F8181 Brew MP phone?

Gleaning valuable information from an HTC FCC filing is like getting blood from a stone, but there are a couple tidbits in the filing for the so-called PD53100 that have us thinking this might be the F8181 for AT&T that we leaked not long ago. First, the SAR report refers to it as a "touch phone," not a "smartphone" as most of HTC's filings typically do; indeed, the F8181 is a Qualcomm Brew MP device, which most folks (us included) will argue doesn't qualify as a smartphone. Secondly, it's got 850 and 1900MHz 3G, which are exactly the flavors AT&T would require to make high-speed magic happen.

Official: Samsung Fascinate launching September 9

Put away your leaked Verizon documents , good folks, the Fascinate finally has an official release date: September 9 . Verizon's Galaxy S variant snuck up on all of us with a commercial appearance last night, which was accompanied by that appropriately blown out text at the bottom, indicating it'll be in stores within a couple of days. That doesn't leave much time for you to build up fresh anticipation, so hopefully you were able to sustain yours while everyone else was unpacking their Captivate, Epic and Vibrant handsets.

Verizon confirms Android 2.2 update for Droid Incredible hits today

Just as we thought , HTC's Droid Incredible for Verizon is getting boosted from Android 2.1 to 2.2 today, which should make plenty of owners (and plenty of non-owners who've been unable to find any stock for the past couple months) happy as a clam. Major features include pre-installed Flash 10.1, 720p video recording, mobile hotspot support as first introduced for Verizon on the Droid X , and naturally, all the other standard greatness you've come to expect with Froyo . We imagine this update will take a couple weeks to roll out to everyone, so show some patience, Droid Incredible owners -- or, you know, do like we do and search frantically for an update.zip to get posted somewhere.
