RIM introduces PlayBook — the BlackBerry tablet
Today at Research In Motion's annual BlackBerry Developer Conference, CEO Mike Lazaridis announced the company's new tablet -- the PlayBook. The tablet will utilize an OS created by the recently acquired QNX (just as we'd heard previous to the announcement) called the BlackBerry Tablet OS which will offer full OpenGL and POSIX support alongside web standards such as HTML5 (which is all tied into RIM's new WebWorks SDK).

ARM reveals Eagle core as Cortex-A15, capable of quad-core computing at up to 2.5GHz
Way to take the wind out of our sails, ARM -- no sooner does your dual-core Cortex-A9 finally ship , do you reveal an even more powerful smartphone, smartbook and server-slaying beast. The Cortex-A15 MPCore picks up where the A9 left off, but with reportedly five times the power of existing SOCs, raising the bar for ARM-based single- and dual-core cell phone processors up to 1.5GHz... or as high as 2.5GHz in quad-core server-friendly rigs with hardware virtualization baked in and support for well over 4GB of memory

Enso whips up two smartphones and three new slates, but we wouldn’t order any of ‘em
Oh, Enso -- must you really give us a reason to hope? After dealing with what felt like a case of the vaporwares , and then being epically disappointed with the zenPad (which is now out of stock, curiously) that you finally shipped, we just can't muster up the courage to look fondly upon the five new products that are gracing your webstore

iPhone 4 teardown now underway, 512MB RAM confirmed
With nary hours since the reviews went live , the gang at iFixit -- no doubt blessed by the hands of early deliveries -- have procured an iPhone 4 . And as is their modus operandi, they wasted no time tearing that sucker apart screw by screw.

Samsung Galaxy S Pro specs leak out?
Can't confirm these ourselves, but if Android Central's sources are to be believed, these Samsung Galaxy S Pro specs are mighty impressive. Here's what we're looking at: a Sammy-borne 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor, a Super AMOLED screen that may or may not be the same 4-inch, 800 x 480 window on the Galaxy S , a strong QWERTY slider with raised keys, front-facing VGA camera, 5 megapixel back camera with 720p video recording capabilities, WiMAX support, and Android 2.1 with some TouchWiz 3.0 customizations. As for qualms, the source does drop "plastic-y" a couple times in a none-too-flattering light

Speaking of Android, this will come loaded up with version 2.1 when it launches later this month.

Samsung to announce Galaxy S smartphone, content initiatives this week
We've just received a veritable cornucopia of information around Samsung's supposed announcements out at CTIA this week -- and seeing how this is the biggest wireless show the US has to offer, you might imagine that the reveals are fairly US-focused while still hanging onto some global relevance.

Nokia: MeeGo "door is not closed" on N900
Now that we have clarity with regard to a Windows Phone 7 update on the HD2 ( sorry, folks ), let's move on to the next contentious platform: Nokia's N900 and MeeGo. As Nokia's only Cortex-A8 handset, there's plenty of hope that Nokia sees fit to upgrade the N900 to MeeGo once the unified Maemo and Moblin OS is ready for consumers

Texas Instruments introduces ARM-based OMAP 4 SOC, Blaze development platform
Texas Instruments has just made its OMAP 4 system-on-chip official, and garnished the announcement with the first development platform for it, aggressively titled Blaze. We already caught a glimpse of it in prototype form earlier this month, and the thing is quite a whopper -- you can see it on video after the break and we doubt you'll accuse TI of placing form before function with this one.

Core Values: The silicon behind Android
It's interesting for a number of reasons, but I want to highlight that all present day Android phones use virtually the same Qualcomm application processor, all based on a sluggish 528MHz ARM11 core. Blech. ...
