Our eyes were drawn to an FCC filing this morning from a California start-up by the name of Zelfy; a quick glance at Zelfy's site reveals that they're in "stealth mode," but the picture of a woman using an iPhone to control her TV should give you an idea of what these guys are up to.

Sony replacing handset wiring with a single copper cable
Sure, it's just boring ol' component news but you can guarantee that this advance will affect the appearance of Sony (and Sony Ericsson) products some time soon. Sony just announced the development of a "single wire interface technology" that replaces the 22 or so cables (used for power, control signals, audio, video, etc) typically found inside mobile devices (tucked away in the hinge or rotating parts) with a single copper wire cable capable of transmitting data at 940Mbps. That should translate into greater reliability while giving Sony's product teams more flexibility with their designs

Nanosys and LG Innotek agree deal for newfangled LED-backlit displays
For the nitty gritty of how Nanosys' proprietary LED backlighting technology works, check out our earlier coverage here -- what you really need to know is that the company promises a significantly wider color gamut from its displays, while reducing power consumption by up to 50 percent. Quantum dot LEDs have shown their faces before, but now there's the big hulking heft of LG Innotek -- LG's component manufacturing arm -- behind what Nanosys is offering, which indicates we might actually see the release of nanotech-infused displays within the first half of this year as promised.

HDMI Out Issues
60gb PS3 purchased Dec 2006 and immediately hookep up to Olevia 32" 720p television via HDMI cable. This set up has not been touched until present date; however, television states no signal from ps3. I checked the HDMI cable with another device and worked fine, and I also checked the TV with another device and it worked fine. I reset my display setting on the ps3 to manually change over to HDMI. This still did not correct the issue. I also tried to autodetect feature.., no luck. The AV cables provided with the ps3 work just fine. With all of the information above, I have come to the conclusion that my HDMI OUT has fried or is havin major errors. My two choices are: 1.

HDMI to component conversion questions
I have an older (but very high quality) receiver and TV (capable of 1080i) that do not have HDMI. They do, however, support component video and digital audio, which works fine.
