WIND Mobile outs $40 unlimited plan, but you better act fast

Not to be outdone by fellow Canadian upstart carrier Mobiilicity , WIND Mobile has cobbled together its own special holiday plan that more or less matches its competitor's offering: unlimited voice, messaging, data, and long-distance calling and messaging to the US, all for $40 Canadian (a little over $39 in American currency). That's a pretty fantastic deal, but as you can probably gather from the plan's name -- "Holiday Miracle Plan" -- it's not going to be around for long: you've got to get activated on it by December 24th. No better way to celebrate Christmas than with a crazy cheap all-you-can-eat package for your phone, right

Radio Shack selling $99 EVO 4Gs with a trade-in, $80 myTouch 4Gs

Hey, EVO admirer: got a crappy phone you wouldn't mind seeing disappear? You might want to consider bringing it down to Radio Shack, where a new promo running through Christmas will net you a shiny new EVO 4G for $99 on contract if you bring in "any working handset," which should presumably include that dirt-encrusted StarTAC that's stuck in that no-man's land between "usable" and "collectible." From an article over on TmoNews , looks like they're also hawking you're choice of a myTouch 4G or G2 or $79.99 on contract if T-Mobile's more to your liking than Sprint (or if you don't have WiMAX coverage in your neck of the woods). Even better, any new activation will apparently get you a free Bluetooth headset, so you'll walk out of the store with a shiny new smartphone and a reason to keep it off your greasy face.

Motorola’s new logo: it’s red

Been wondering about what impact Motorola's January split into two distinct entities will have on your humble consumption of consumer electronics? Well, after attending Moto's big Christmas do in London, we seem to have uncovered one of the biggies: the Droid maker is switching to a crimson new brand identity from the start of the new year. They won't tell us much more than that, but we can only surmise that the slight chromatic deviation will be in an effort to distinguish between the Mobility arm, which will make all the pocketable things we know and love, and the Solutions group in charge of the less glamorous business hardware.

Carphone Warehouse getting Nexus Two in time for holidays?

This is kinda out of the blue, but British publication City A.M. is claiming that Google has inked a deal with wireless retail giant Carphone Warehouse to exclusively sell a Nexus Two -- the mythical successor to the Nexus One -- in time for Christmas this year. Little else is offered, though the story claims that it'll run Gingerbread and probably won't be manufactured by Samsung.

Panasonic MW-20 is a digital photo frame, iPhone / iPod touch stereo, and money burner all in one

If you're the sort who fancies a digital picture frame and a stereo dock for your iPhone, Panasonic 's new MW-20 might just be the thing to converge and satiate those needs. The 9-inch frame can display pictures via SD card, 2GB internal memory, or an iPhone / iPod touch via the bundled dock -- and if you've got the device connected, you can also play music video via the frame's internal stereo speakers (there's no indication of any audio out for using your own speaker system, however)

Motorola Defy hitting T-Mobile this holiday season, details to come… on Oprah

Remember that Defy that Motorola outed at the front end of this month? Turns out the Europeans won't be the only ones seeing it this Christmas, as Moto has just revealed that it'll be hitting US airwaves exclusively on T-Mobile "in time for the holidays." You already know the details -- a 3.7-inch WVGA scratch-resistant touchpanel, plenty of rigidity, Android 2.1, the ability to withstand dust and water, a five megapixel camera (with flash and auto focus), DLNA support and the outfit's own Blur interface -- but it looks as if you'll have to wait a tick to find out anything about pricing. How long?

Exclusive: Dell Thunder prototype preview (video)

Christmas came early at Engadget HQ this year, as evidenced by the picture above -- you're looking at two Dell Thunder prototype smartphones, each with some surprising quirks, and hints that they might include global HSPA, AWS for the likes of T-Mobile, and maybe even a dash of CDMA support. We'll warn you ahead of time that these are labeled EVT1 for "engineering verification test" and date back to the April leak , so they're about as early as you can get -- don't expect the final handset to arrive without some significant differences.

And you thought a dual-core 1.2GHz chip was quick.
