iOS 4.3 code reveals new iPhone and iPad models, rumor mill suggests a dislike of the home button
History lesson, folks. If you dig far enough into iOS’s code, you’ll eventually come across iPhone3,1, which is the AT&T iPhone 4, and the analogous iPhone3,2 (i.e. Verizon iPhone). It’s nothing we haven’t seen before, but then along comes iOS 4.3 with a handful of new mystery identifiers to spurn speculation — namely, two new-generation iPhones (4,1 and 4,2) and three iPads (2,1; 2,2; and 2,3). Speculate all you want, but there isn’t much else at all we can say definitively here, but if we had to take a guess, it’s the GSM and CDMA variants of the next-gen models (plus a WiFi-only iPad). It is interesting to note the lack of an “iPhone4,3″ given the yet-to-be-revealed iPhone3,3 is still there — will the last member ever see the light of day? Outside of iOS 4.3 but still very much related, BGR is claiming it’s heard from sources that the next iPhone / iPad models will eschew the physical home button altogether in lieu of the new multi-finger gestures and that employees at Cupertino are already testing such devices. That seems a little more out there to us; five-finger pinch to home feels extremely clunky. The real takeaway here? We can finally have an iPhone rumor that doesn’t involve wondering if it’ll head to a new US carrier.

Samsung SCH-R700 is a cute full-touch dumbphone, looks destined for US
It's extraordinarily rare for a Samsung phone to show up in the FCC with full photography available to the public ahead of its official introduction, so color us surprised to see this lil' SCH-R700 hanging out today. It's an 850 / 1900MHz CDMA device with EV-DO, suggesting it'd probably go to Verizon, Sprint, or US Cellular -- Cricket and MetroPCS would almost certainly be off the table since both of those guys use AWS in their coverage

Samsung Omnia 7 first hands-on!
Samsung's Omnia 7, ladies and gents. The only Super AMOLED in Microsoft's launch Windows Phone 7 stable, the Omnia 7 looks appropriately vibrant and richly saturated. To be perfectly fair, we didn't note a major advantage in using its display relative to the other WP7 devices, but that's more a mark of distinction on the other phones on show here

Samsung i8700 for Windows Phone 7 leaks, puts developer prototype to shame
Could this be the best-looking Windows Phone 7 device yet? HTC EVO 4G suffering new calendar bug, cracked shells, broken dreams?
It wouldn't be the first time the EVO's been dinged for a manufacturing defect , but it seems that at least a few owners are reporting cracks near the power button. Fortunately, these cracks seem to be purely cosmetic without any effect on feel or any real danger of the case falling apart -- and seeing how other high-profile devices have suffered similar fates , we can certainly buy that there are high-stress points in the phone's case where this is prone to happen.
