Confirmed: Marketplace will be the only way to get apps on Windows Phone 7 Series
We just got out of a meeting with Microsoft's Todd Biggs, who dropped a little bombshell on us: the only official way to get apps on a Windows Phone 7 Series device will be to download them from the just-detailed Windows Phone Marketplace.

Leak: Microsoft Pink phones coming to Verizon, on shelves April 20th?
Details on Microsoft's Pink phones seem to be leaking all over the place this week, and we just got a huge piece of the puzzle: an extremely reliable source just told us the two Sharp-made devices will launch exclusively on Verizon, with a possible street date of April 20th. We've also got two more photos of the Pure and Turtle -- which are legit, as far as we can tell -- and some info on the Pink ad campaign, which will indeed be targeted at teens and twentysomethings and centered around that "truly madly deeply" line Microsoft employees have been tossing around lately

Apple vs HTC: a patent breakdown
Apple suing HTC over 20-odd patents before both the US District Court and the International Trade Commission has certainly caused some chaos this morning, but we thought we'd take a quick breath now that we have the complaints and tease out exactly what patents are at stake here. Of note, most of the patents were granted in the past year, but overall they span a range from 1995 to February 2. Yes, last month

Apple specifically going after Android in HTC lawsuit
There's no delicate way to put this: at least part of Apple's patent lawsuit against HTC appears to be a proxy fight for a larger issue with Android as a whole.

Exclusive: LG’s Windows Phone 7 Series early prototype unveiled (with video!)
Microsoft's Aaron Woodman just pulled off a little surprise here at The Engadget Show: he brought out LG's Windows Phone 7 Series pre-production prototype! The QWERTY slider is the first branded Windows Phone 7 Series device the world's ever seen, and while the hardware and software are both obviously early, we can tell you a few things about it: it's just a hair thicker than an iPhone or Nexus One, there are dedicated hardware camera, volume, and power buttons in addition to the back, home, and search buttons dictated by Windows Phone 7 Series, and we noticed a five megapixel camera with a flash on the back, along with a headphone jack.

Nexus One coming to Vodafone UK in April, says Telegraph
Without citing its sources, the Telegraph is reporting matter-of-factly that the Nexus One will launch on Vodafone in April for a to-be-determined price, though it's "likely to be priced very similarly to comparable smartphones such as the iPhone." It's no secret that Vodafone's picking up Google's Snapdragon -powered beast -- but we've yet to lock it down to a 30-day window like this, so it's progress. Coincidentally, this is going to collide head-to-head with the European release of the Desire , HTC's remix of the Nexus One with Sense and an optical pad thrown in, so it'll be fascinating to see which of these monsters comes out on top at retail. Nexus One coming to Vodafone UK in April, says Telegraph originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 26 Feb 2010 17:43:00 EST.

Symbian S^3 officially announced, previewed on video
The time has finally come for us to see Symbian's milestone shift toward finger-friendly operation in motion. Firstly, to allay any fears that it'd lack all the modern amenities, we'll note that kinetic scrolling, swiping, and pinch-to-zoom are all present and accounted for, while a "visual multi-tasking" option allows you to see the open applications in an interface not a million miles away from the Pre's card implementation . Customization is also a big deal in the S^3 UI, with multiple Home Screen pages available, accompanied by a litany of widgets you can add and manage.
