Swype for Android gets lightweight build with less language support
Don't need Chinese pinyin support? Well, Swype has a little treat for you: a new version available from the company's beta installer on your handset reduces the size of the final installed package by a whopping 75 percent, down from 10MB to 2.5MB, simply by dropping support for languages other than English and Spanish -- and for a platform where the app storage issue still isn't fully resolved, every megabyte counts

Microsoft rolls out updated Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac
It's still technically in beta, but Microsoft has just rolled out a fairly significant update to its Windows Phone 7 Connector software for Mac. Among other things, the software now has a new device setup process, support for manual file imports from the device, and the ability to sync content purchased on your phone back to your Mac -- not to mention a slew of bug fixes and other more minor tweaks. Hit up the source link below to start downloading, or just look for it in the Microsoft AutoUpdate app

EVO 4G gets new firmware update: lots of app refreshes
No, for goodness' sake, it's not Gingerbread ! Okay, now that we've gotten past that, Sprint just cut loose a new EVO 4G update that bundles updated versions of Telenav, visual voicemail, Sprint Zone, and Sprint TV, along with a sprinkling of crapware in the form of a new game trial. You've also got Blockbuster and Kindle apps on board, a new Scan Now widget that seems to assist with locating a 4G signal, and -- this is pretty awesome -- the addition of Swype , which means you'll no longer need to install the off-ROM Swype beta. Want the goods?

BlackBerry News Feeds hits the beta wires
If you're in the market for a good -- or at the very least, free -- RSS reader for your BlackBerry , a new app from RIM itself might be a good place to start your search. The aptly-named BlackBerry News Feeds looks to be a serviceable app from the screen shots that RIM has sent us, offering the ability to share the gold you dig up in your feeds through countless conduits -- email, text, BBM, Facebook, and so on. It's launching both through BlackBerry Beta Zone and App World's Test Center today, so if you're feeling adventurous -- and you like yourself some newses -- you might want to have a look.

iPhone gets UberTwitter client, BlackBerrys have one less reason to exist
If the name UberTwitter sounds familiar, that'll be because it's one of the more popular mobile Twitter clients, accounting for 10 million tweets each day from BlackBerry users around the globe. And now it's also available on the iPhone. Citing the "growing dominance" of Apple's one-device-to-rule-them-all mobile platform, the UberTwitter crew has decided to expand its offering with a new open beta, which is available to download now

Opera Mobile 10.1 for Android hits public beta
As promised , the boys and girls at Opera have pushed out an Android-flavored beta version of their Opera Mobile 10.1 product today -- and considering the company's track record for making awesome replacement browsers, odds are good that you're going to want to check it out. Besides pinch-to-zoom and support for location services, you'll find fan favorites like desktop browser sync and Opera's Speed Dial, a touchable grid of bookmarks. What's more, the visual tab management is downright slick (then again, outdoing the tab management in-built to Android doesn't take much), so you might want to take it for a test drive today -- can we suggest engadget.com as a fine starting point?

Google Instant for Mobile goes live on Android and iPhone (video)
We'd heard Google Instant was quietly popping up in mobile form for a lucky few, but it's officially widespread now -- the query-while-you-type search technology's just hit open beta on Android 2.2 and iOS 4. Just go to Google in your favorite mobile browser and press the "Turn on" link, and you'll be able to rush into the arms of your favorite technology blog with four fewer clicks. We maintain that it's nigh-useless on most standard-sized mobile devices, as you can only ever see the top result without scrolling up and down, but it won't cost you a penny to pick up your handset and form an opinion for yourself.

Google Instant showing up on some Android devices in beta form?
If you believe the good readers of Droid Life (and there's no reason why you shouldn't), Google has started sneaking out its Instant search option to Android phones in the USA. So far, reports include the original Motorola Droid, the Droid X, and HTC's Droid Incredible

BlackBerry PlayBook Simulator Beta hands-on
Sure, you might have to be at Adobe's MAX conference to actually hold a PlayBook in your hand... but RIM's offering us all the next best thing by turning a beta version of its PlayBook simulator loose on devs way, way in advance of the tablet's release -- ostensibly in the hopes of drumming up a beefy third-party app catalog in time for retail
