Nokia’s Savander: ‘the Symbian Foundation will exist as an open source movement and we will use it’

The veracity of The Register 's information regarding the Symbian Foundation's future remains to be seen -- but for what it's worth, Nokia's outspoken vice president of markets, Niklas Savander, seems to have some pretty strong language about the platform's future in a recent interview with CNET Asia . Here's the money quote in response to a question about whether Espoo will pull the Foundation's operations back in-house after having spun them off as an open-source operation in 2008: "I don't see any reason for that

HTC HD7 review

The screen that just keeps on going meets the OS that refuses to fit on a single display. Yes, Microsoft's Windows Phone 7, like Windows Mobile 6.5 and Android before it, is getting treated with a 4.3-inch display from HTC for its launch party. The aptly titled HD7 is, by virtue of Microsoft's stringent hardware requirements, mostly just a stretched-out version of its WP7 contemporaries: it offers the standard 800 x 480 res, 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon, 576MB of RAM, and a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with a 720p movie mode.

Palm CEO still thinks company can go it alone, open to webOS licensing deals

In the face of a near-constant stream of buyout rumors the past couple weeks, Palm boss Jon Rubinstein is holding the line he's held ever since he's taken the helm -- well most of the line, anyway. In a chat with Financial Times today, the CEO said that he still believes that "Palm can survive as an independent company" and that he's got a plan to get the company spitting black ink rather than red, but that "if someone comes to the board with a reasonable offer of course it's something [they'd] have to consider," which isn't anything materially different than he's said in the past -- it's just good business sense, and it's a very cautiously-worded soundbite

Nokia’s mid-tier ‘Mystic’ to be dubbed C6, will hit stores in May or June?

We can't say we were overwhelmed by the first leaked photos of what we've come to know as the Nokia Mystic , but there's something about this QWERTY candybar form factor that Nokia just does so well that we have to hang onto the benefit of the doubt.

T-Mobile relaxes SIM unlock policies

If you're on T-Mobile USA and hop across the pond here and there, good news, as your carrier of choice has decided to reduce some of the restrictions it has on proving unlock info to its customers. In case you've never looked into this before and travel overseas, the benefit here is you'll be able to pick up a local SIM and use it in your phone saving yourself beaucoup dollars in both data and voice -- though of course your home number, unless forwarded, won't work. Currently FlexPay , PostPaid , and prepaid -- provided you've had a balance of at least $10 and have refilled in the last month -- customers can get themselves unlocked after 90 days of service, the new rules will see FlexPay and PostPaid users able to get this sorted in 40 days and prepaid in 60.
