Dell Venue hits FCC again, this time with a soothing 1700MHz aroma
We've already seen one variant of the Dell Venue -- formerly Thunder -- pass through the FCC, but that was a WCDMA Band II / V version ripe for use on AT&T, Rogers, Bell, and Telus. What about T-Mobile? No worries! Dell's got your back, it seems, with a second version going under model code "V03B002" that features 1700MHz AWS 3G in place of 850 and 1900MHz

Exclusive: Dell Thunder prototype preview (video)
Christmas came early at Engadget HQ this year, as evidenced by the picture above -- you're looking at two Dell Thunder prototype smartphones, each with some surprising quirks, and hints that they might include global HSPA, AWS for the likes of T-Mobile, and maybe even a dash of CDMA support. We'll warn you ahead of time that these are labeled EVT1 for "engineering verification test" and date back to the April leak , so they're about as early as you can get -- don't expect the final handset to arrive without some significant differences.

Motorola Motoroi getting Android 2.1, bound for UK?
There's no word yet on when the Motorola Motoroi will make it to T-Mobile (in the industry we call that "the T-Motoroiola rumor") but there has definitely been a good deal of chatter concerning this handset.

Public Mobile launching in mid-May: ‘you’re not going to see us at Yorkville’
Canada's Public Mobile -- one of the wireless start-ups to benefit from the country's AWS spectrum auction -- has started detailing its launch plans this week behind its contemporaries at WIND Mobile and Mobilicity . These guys are being totally forthcoming about the fact that they're targeting the lower end of the market, a segment they claim to be "underserved" by the big guys (we're sure Koodo, Fido, and Virgin would all disagree) -- even going so far as to make their launch announcement in an area of Toronto ominously described as "hardscrabble." So what's the deal? Stores are open immediately to the tune of 15 in Toronto and another 10 in Montreal, the only markets Public Mobile says it's going to target for now, with service launching in mid-May to the tune of CAD $40 (about $39) a month for unlimited talk and text.

Rogers signed up to carry Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 as a Canadian exclusive
We still don't know whether T-Mobile is going to take on-contract advantage of the X10's AWS version in the States, but as far as we can tell, WIND won't be taking advantage of it in Canada now that Rogers has locked it up as an exclusive. The bad news is that it won't be launching until some time in the second quarter -- but when you think back to the X1 and the excruciating 16-month delay between announcement and retail on Rogers , that ain't half bad.

Motorola prepping 3G module with support for AT&T and T-Mobile USA alike
T-Mobile's oddball 3G network makes creating a device that simply supports all forms of North American HSPA a challenge for a very simple reason: even triband HSPA radios are still a bit of a novelty, and to support everything we've got going on over here, you effectively need to go quadband since AWS splits its duties between 1700 and 2100MHz.

Nokia 3710a, some Motorola (Morrison, perhaps?) get FCC approval for T-Mobile
Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Nokia , T-Mobile , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS , Android For T-Mobile USA customers, the FCC slid a couple particularly interesting batches of docs into its vast library in the past week: the Nokia 3710a and a mysterious Motorola. First, the 3710a (pictured) is simply an Americanized version of the 3710 flip introduced a couple months back, offering a 3.2 megapixel cam, Series 40, and a concealed external display in addition to that all-important dose of 3G on T-Mobile's AWS band. The more interesting item, though, might be this Motorola -- as usual Moto has done a terrific job of concealing virtually all useful bits of information about this phone, but we have reason to believe that it could be the Android-powered Morrison since it's got WiFi on board in addition to 3G, Bluetooth, and the usual RF suspects.
