Mobiado’s 712 Mokume Gane: because your Galaxy S lacks ancient Japanese metallurgical craftsmanship

Is there any way to sensibly justify Mobiado's colossally overpriced, underspec'd handsets? Not as far as we can tell -- but Mobiado seems to be eminently aware of (and okay with) that, diving yet deeper into the bottomless pit of conspicuous consumption this week with the announcement of the 712 Mokume Gane candybar. What's "Mokume Gane" mean, you ask

Fring update approved for iPhone, does video calling with front cam over 3G

We weren't exactly sure whether Apple was going to approve third-party video calling apps using the front camera on the iPhone 4 , but good news: the answer is "yes." Fring just slid in a new version of its longstanding iPhone app today featuring support for video calling, which is pretty awesome in and of itself -- but the real news is that it works just fine over 3G, as you can see in our quick test above between Chicago and London. This opens the door for services that could have potentially broader implications than FaceTime itself, since Apple's service is limited to WiFi and currently only works between iPhone 4s. Just make sure you're wearing clothes when you call, alright?

Motorola Devour graced with update, bug fixes are the main story

Alright, Devour users, we know the very first thing you want to know is whether this is Android 2.1 we're dealing with here -- and sadly, the answer to that is a forlorn "no." That said, it looks like this update is going to tidy up a whole bunch of stuff for you with improved call performance, better UI response time, stability enhancements, a handful of minor email tweaks, better audio over headsets, and updated Google apps. As usual, Verizon and Motorola are rolling out this OTA in phases, so if you haven't gotten it yet, just hang tight and see what the Firmware Fairy brings you over the next few days. Which One is the Best? (Easy 10 Points for Best Answer)?

I’m doing this student congress thing for debate and I want to know which bill you think is the best.

1. A bill to keep Guantanamo Bay open

2. A Resolution (doesn’t have power of a law) to discourage courts to try minors as adults.

3. A bill stating that additions to bills must have a nexus of purpose. (some connection)

4. Abolish all legislation promoting gun control laws

5. Any of your own suggestions would be helpful.

Bell’s Palm Pre now free — in exchange for three years of your life

How long does it take for a smartphone to go from two hundred bucks on contract all the way down to a big, fat goose egg? If you're Bell -- and the phone is the Palm Pre -- the answer is right around five months, apparently.

Are there *any* downsides to HDMI to DVI cables besides no audio?

I've seen several threads around the internet concerning this, but I haven't found a definitive answer yet...I'm looking at 24" 1080p monitors to replace the one my daughter took a thumb tack to, and the one that seems the most promising doesn't have an HDMI input.  I have no problem with routing the audio through the AV connection, so my only concern is picture quality.  Is there any image degredation, scaling issues, artifact, or anything like that when using a quality HDMI to DVI cable to connect the PS3 to a DVI monitor?   Thanks
