We’re sorry, but the Palm Pixi’s rendition of Need for Speed no longer impresses us — we’ve just seen John Carmack show off Rage for iPhone. While of course it looks nothing like the PC graphical monstrosity that swept the E3 Games Critics Awards, it’s safe to say the 60 frame-per-second tech demo at QuakeCon 2010 shoves the cell phone gaming envelope through a Juggernaut-class brick wall. Where Carmack originally called the iPhone “more powerful than a Nintendo DS and PSP combined,” the id Software co-founder is now aiming squarely at the likes of PS2 and Xbox with iPhone 4 hardware. Not impressive enough? He says it still “runs great on an original 2G iPhone” as well. VG247, who liveblogged the event, reports the title will be available in the App Store later this year for a relatively inexpensive price, with a second game available in time for the PC game’s 2011 launch. Sadly, there’s as of yet no plans for Android owners to get the same megatexturing goodness. Don’t miss the video after the break, because this screenshot doesn’t do it justice.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Just a day before the Pre Plus launches on AT&T, current Palm owners are experiencing all kinds of problems related to the App Store and their Palm Profiles. Reports indicate the problems started last night, since then users haven’t been able to download new apps or update existing ones from the catalog, while those unlucky enough to have tried a reset have had trouble signing back into their Palm profile in the cloud, and have lost some information like call logs and had to resync their various accounts in webOS. The Palm Developer Website is also down, tossing a “back in a few hours” sign in the window and going out for a few afternoon mimosas. For now, PreCentral posters recommend taking the device off of network time and resetting it to any day prior to today which will allow apps to install and update without issue. A post on the official Palm blog indicates things should be back to normal “soon” so AT&T customers can hopefully avoid any date/time trickery just to get their Foursquare checkins going.

[Thanks, William]

If so, what type is recommended? I have a baby and a wife that wake easily and I thought that if I could use some headphones, that would lessen my problems of playing late at night and actually hearing a game.

I use HDMI, so I am not sure if that would be a problem. Thank you in advance for answering.

However,

I have a 320 gb harddisk in my fat one. Is it possible that i remove it and put it in the slim one so that i do not have to deal with backin up my saved data to an external harddisk?

In other words, if i replace the fat’s HD with the slim’s HD, would i have all of my data in the slim?

I have a PS3 Slim with firmware 3.10 installed. The Device is a few months old as I bought it on the first day the Slim was released.

I have a PS3 Slim with firmware 3.10 installed.

The Device is a few months old as I bought it on the first day the Slim was released.

Up until now I never had any wireless controller connectivity issues.

Normally I would just press the PS button on one of my 2 controllers, and it would turn on the PS3, and within a few seconds it would sync up and pick a controller number, and all would be fine.

Lately though, upon pressing the PS button the PS3 turns on, however the 4 LED’s on the controller just keep flashing, and it never syncs up wirelessly with the PS3.

The LED’s just keep blinking until the controller times out and then the LEDs turn off.

Even if i try the scond controller it does the same thing.

When this happens I have to pull out a USB cord and connect the controller with the USB wire.

Upon connecting it with the wire the controller sync’s up and gets a number assigned to it.

As soon as I remove the wire, once again the LED’s start flashing, and the controller does not establish a connection wirelessly.

Once again the LED’s just keep flashing until it times out.

The only solution I have found so far when this happens is to leave the controller plugged in with the USB wire.

Then turn off the power on the PS3 Slim using the power button.

Then turn the power back on while the controller is still plugged in with the USB cable.

Upon booting up, after the controller has established a number, I can then sometimes unplug it and then the wireless link gets established.

The wireless link seems to last so long as the PS3 is on, and even if the controller falls asleap i can still turn the controller back on and it links up, however once I turn the PS3 off with the controller, and then back on, it will usually require me to go through the same cycle again.

I have found that the more reliable way to ensure that wireless works is to turn on the PS3 using the physical power button on the PS3 slim, located near the BluRay slot, then pressing the PS button after the PS3 has booted up.

This however does not always work but is more reliable then turning it on with the controllers.

Also it is not convenient for me to have to press the button on the PS3 as it is not as easily accessible as it is to turn on via the controller.

Also note that the controller ALWAYS, turns on the PS3 slim, its just after its on it wont establish a link, and thus the controller wont work until it does.

I have also tried to rest communications with the PS3 by pressing the reset button on my controllers using a paperclip, and this has not helped at all.

Also my controllers are fully charged so it is unrelated to battery power.

It does this with both my controllers.

This is also not a distance issue since I have the PS3 close to the controller 2 or 3 feet, and I have even tried with the controller sitting right on top of the PS3 with no luck.

I live in a large single family home, and I am not subject to neighbor issues or interference caused by close neighbors with their own PS3′s.

I have not installed any new Bluetooth or wireless devices recently in my home.

I would not attribute this issue to radio/wifi interference, especially since the pattern I outlined above, by turning off and on the unit with the controller plugged in with USB wire appears to correct the issue.

I did not have this issue the first few months I owned the PS3, in that time I have updated the firmware twice, it may be firmware related but I have no real proof of this.

So if anyone has any ideas why my controllers are currently behaving like this, feel free to give your suggestions on how I might be able to resolve this so that I can once again turn on my PS3 with my controller, and then continue to use the controller to operate the PS3. Thanks.
