trouble with connecting ps3 to tv…was using hdmi now using av cables

i took my ps3 on vacation with me and i can not get a picture on the tv. at home i was using the hdmi cables and the tv here does not have hdmi ports. i brought the av cables but i can not get them to work. is there a way i can change the settings with out having a hdmi capable tv? thanks.
