backing up system help

so i have to send my ps3 in but i want to back up my hard drive…when i do could i use a 16gb usd drive? (yes i would have to delete a few movies for it to fit) but i dont know about backing it up. and would my call of duty map packs be backed up even if they dont show under the game column? or will i have to re download them?
